Okay, let me qualify.

I'm sure most of you have read my posts, and know that my drive is very consistent. (Same road, same speed) And, that my mileage seems to be 19. 2mpg at 70MPH. (It has been as low as 17. 6, when I"m heavy with the go pedal..... )

So recently, I had the truck hand waxed, and the tank of fuel immediately following the waxing, yielded . 4mpg better mileage.

So... either my old man is right, and waxing cuts down on wind resistance, or the fact that the weather has been colder, thus the air more dense, has something to do with it??

Any comments? I might have to wax the truck every week :)

Incidentally, increase took me to 19. 6mpg at 70MPH on the highway.

Maybe not such a good idea to wax every week since the cost of wax might out weigh the savings gained by the extra mpg's. Ha Ha Ha.

Comments;

- To be polite, I'll just say; it's not the wax. 0. 4mpg is a miniscule discrepancy. You should be wondering how you are able to stay so close to your previous numbers, not trying to source out the reason for the difference. Wind, temperature, humidity and a hundred other variables will all effect the mileage a 1000 times more than the condition of your paint job.

Cheers,

Dave

Well, it was worth a try :)

I kinda figured as much, but hey, all those years of having Dad tell me that waxing the car "Made it go faster, and use less gasoline... "

But honestly, I'm at least encouraged that the mileage seems to be getting better with age so to speak. I just turned 21,000 on the way home from work today. I'm going to check my air cleaner tomorrow as well, it's the factory element and hasn't been changed yet.

I'll wait for that reflash everyone is hoping for from Cummins in October.

Thanks for the reply's and I hope I made you smile at least.

I worked for a Learjet maintenance facility. We worked with a company that would wash/detail aircraft. Customers said that the airplane would fly faster (for the same power settings) after it was cleaned and waxed. I don't doubt 0. 4 MPG increase. Besides that, it looks better. :)
