Let me first start by apolojizing for being a little lazy getting a date set. I did not realize I was almost a month or more behind when I usually announce, but with no further delay here goes. After some discussion with the core midwest 1st gen group of friends I have decided to move the date around a little to try and make it work better for those with inflexible weekends. This year we are going to meet on Saturday the 15th of June. As always there will be some guys roll in on Friday afternoon and evening. Those that do that depending on the size of the group we will either eat dinner together in town or here at my house. Then Saturday the 15th around 8-830am we will have breakfast in Creston, likely at the Family Resturant, and then come back to the shop for wrenching, tuning, cussing, discussing, bench racing, test drives, joking, and other sorts of activities. Don't worry about weather, the shop is large enough for everyone to get into if it rains, and is relatively cool if its really hot. To those that attended last year and maybe thought the shop a/c was a let down, it was due to the fact that I did not have all the valves in the utility room set right, and only half the system was working. That will never happen again... ... lol. Tent and camper camping is welcome as always, you can arrive and camp Friday night and Saturday night, and usually Sunday morning everyone starts homeward. Anyone with a square bodied or VE pumped 12 valve is welcome. This is a family event, so bring your kids, mine will be around to play. Also keep this in mind when enjoying alcoholic beverages, it will not be discouraged, but please keep it in check. I have never had this problem, but will state it is a DRUG FREE event and there will be no second chances, you will be escorted off the premises, likely into a local law enforcement vehicle if you decide to bring drugs onto the property. I will not tolerate this nonsense.
All that said, my shop is your shop. While I will not get into any major tear downs like we did last year, if you want to do a trans swap, or something like that, the tools, hoist, and jacks will be available. Those of you that have to tooling to check pump timing, will you please bring it. I once again have a couple trucks that need the timing checked/adjusted if time allows. I can scatter a Getrag trans if anyone wants to see one disassembled. Maybe Bill Gilbert can bring a VE to scatter for anyone that wants to know. We can put a 3200 spring on my 2wd if anyone wants to see that too. Andrew and my wife and I will supply the main course of the meal, but please bring side dishes and deserts as part of a pot luck meal. When we get closer to the day, I will help delegate that needs to be brought. We will be having lunch and dinner on the premesis, and maybe if the weather co-operates a camp fire come evening. If you do not wish to camp, please try the Motel 8 in Creston Iowa(11 miles from my place) at 641-782-6541. I will try and get some rooms blocked out this week before the railroad does. Make sure and make reservations early as the railroad blocks out a bunch of rooms. You can use Creston or Lenox Ia to plan your travels and mileage. When the date gets closer, those that don't know the way here will via pm get my address to be guided in the rest of the way.
I hope everyone can make it. If you have never made it to SOP or this meet, don't wait. They are great events, attended by great people, with an awesome array of trucks. Don't worry if your sheetmetal is a little rusty, or you don't drive a 500 hp hot rod. Lets be realistic, these trucks are over 20 years old, they are no spring chickens, and most have been used to work. Bring them, enjoy yourself and go away with a hole 'nother group of friends.
If the mod desires, it can be sticky'd to the top here for a while so more guys will see it. Thanks for looking and please come enjoy.
