Let me first start by apolojizing for being a little lazy getting a date set. I did not realize I was almost a month or more behind when I usually announce, but with no further delay here goes. After some discussion with the core midwest 1st gen group of friends I have decided to move the date around a little to try and make it work better for those with inflexible weekends. This year we are going to meet on Saturday the 15th of June. As always there will be some guys roll in on Friday afternoon and evening. Those that do that depending on the size of the group we will either eat dinner together in town or here at my house. Then Saturday the 15th around 8-830am we will have breakfast in Creston, likely at the Family Resturant, and then come back to the shop for wrenching, tuning, cussing, discussing, bench racing, test drives, joking, and other sorts of activities. Don't worry about weather, the shop is large enough for everyone to get into if it rains, and is relatively cool if its really hot. To those that attended last year and maybe thought the shop a/c was a let down, it was due to the fact that I did not have all the valves in the utility room set right, and only half the system was working. That will never happen again... ... lol. Tent and camper camping is welcome as always, you can arrive and camp Friday night and Saturday night, and usually Sunday morning everyone starts homeward. Anyone with a square bodied or VE pumped 12 valve is welcome. This is a family event, so bring your kids, mine will be around to play. Also keep this in mind when enjoying alcoholic beverages, it will not be discouraged, but please keep it in check. I have never had this problem, but will state it is a DRUG FREE event and there will be no second chances, you will be escorted off the premises, likely into a local law enforcement vehicle if you decide to bring drugs onto the property. I will not tolerate this nonsense.

All that said, my shop is your shop. While I will not get into any major tear downs like we did last year, if you want to do a trans swap, or something like that, the tools, hoist, and jacks will be available. Those of you that have to tooling to check pump timing, will you please bring it. I once again have a couple trucks that need the timing checked/adjusted if time allows. I can scatter a Getrag trans if anyone wants to see one disassembled. Maybe Bill Gilbert can bring a VE to scatter for anyone that wants to know. We can put a 3200 spring on my 2wd if anyone wants to see that too. Andrew and my wife and I will supply the main course of the meal, but please bring side dishes and deserts as part of a pot luck meal. When we get closer to the day, I will help delegate that needs to be brought. We will be having lunch and dinner on the premesis, and maybe if the weather co-operates a camp fire come evening. If you do not wish to camp, please try the Motel 8 in Creston Iowa(11 miles from my place) at 641-782-6541. I will try and get some rooms blocked out this week before the railroad does. Make sure and make reservations early as the railroad blocks out a bunch of rooms. You can use Creston or Lenox Ia to plan your travels and mileage. When the date gets closer, those that don't know the way here will via pm get my address to be guided in the rest of the way.

I hope everyone can make it. If you have never made it to SOP or this meet, don't wait. They are great events, attended by great people, with an awesome array of trucks. Don't worry if your sheetmetal is a little rusty, or you don't drive a 500 hp hot rod. Lets be realistic, these trucks are over 20 years old, they are no spring chickens, and most have been used to work. Bring them, enjoy yourself and go away with a hole 'nother group of friends.

If the mod desires, it can be sticky'd to the top here for a while so more guys will see it. Thanks for looking and please come enjoy.

Great post Michael. I always respect you so much for the above quoted part! Not often people now a days will actually come out and say that. Props to you for doing so! :)

One of these years I will get down your way for this. Once the crew cab is done, I should have more spare time and more spare funds. ;)

It is unfortunate that I feel I must throw that comment out there. Seems that common sense and respect for other property are things that are further and far between. I will say that the guys that come every year, and the ones that have come in the past are not like that, and I appreciate it. I just add it for the new prospects. I have far too much at stake to have problems with visitors to my place. Thank you.

You are welcome anytime. I look forward to crossing paths some day.

I swear I wasn't on drugs! I always act like that!

Roberts not making it? Heck with it, I'll stay home then!

I know Pete, thats why I didn't throw you out. What I wonder about though is when you say you are normal and the people from NYC are nuts, I'd hate to meet those people! lololol.

Mike, what is Lake of Three Fires Park like? Does it work for a good place to park a travel trailer? "If" I make it up this year, I don't want to crowd your place and it looks like it is closer than Green Valley State Park.

I just checked the distances via mapquest.com with my home address. Either park would offer good camping options, but Three Fires is by far further away at 32 miles. Green Valley is 14 miles. Another good option is Lake Icaria near Corning Iowa at 22 miles away.

I hope that you will be able to make the trip this year. And as always you could camp here on the premisis.

Wow.

What an awesome sounding event ! If life wasn't so complicated, I'd do the drive out with my wife and poochies.

Really cool of you holding such an event. Please post pix of it so other who cannot attend can enjoy !

TIA

Yeah, Mike, I looked at Icaria also, but thought it might be farther. I was just thinking that your place might be a little overrun. Anyway, with me, due to health issues this year, it is still a big "if". Last year it was a rear end and this year it is health.

Michael,
This Jack Dancoe. I had planned to attend last year and had problems develop with my truck. This year my wife and I will be there. My brother Jim will also be coming. Hopefully we will be in there sometime late Friday. I do have a injection pump timing gauge, and will bring it with me. My phone number is 623-606-8941, or you can e-mail regarding what we can bring for the pot luck, or let us know when we arrive and we will run and fetch whatever is needed. We have a travel trailer, and my brother will bunk with us.
Looking forward to meeting you.
Jack

Mike,
My wife Cathy has a Bean & Corn Relish Salad she likes to make. Do you have any idea about how many folks will be showing up? If you have the parking space we would like to stay at your place. Jim will be driving his own truck, but will bunk with Cathy & I in the trailer.

One more time to the top. This weekend is the big day! If anyone is wanting to come, send me a PM and I will send you my address and phone number. I'll try this year to take pictures and put them up to share.

Michael

What a great time! We had 3 people all the way from Colorado, several from Indiana, a couple from Missouri, a few of us Iowa boys, and a couple of guys from Nebraska. At one point in time we had 14 first gens on the premisis, and thats not counting the 4 that reside here. Dpuckett, Christina, and Wesley-BGilbert and Nicole-Pulltillbroke-Philip-Rumblefish-MelFuelling-Diesel Head-Johnboy50002-340man4ever-Dieselman359,Jack and Cathy Dancoe and Jim Dancoe all traveled in to enjoy the festivities. A prospective first gen owning friend of mine attended and we let him park thier with his 7. 3 powered Ford... ... As soon as some of the guys get home I'm sure the pics will start to surface, I'll try and get them posted on TDR or linked up, just be patient.

Dpuckett replaced the kingpins and axle joints in his grey Dodge, Bgilbert changed the oil in his Getrag and he installed a 3200 spring in my crew cab truck(much thanks Bill, it does run better at part throttle, but I'll have to do some adjusting to WOT power,) That was a big project due to a twisted off fuel screw, my brother Josh and a walk in friend Ryan Riley did some creative machining and drilled out the screw. Andrew swapped out his front bumper and sold it to Rumblefish who swapped out his front bumper and he sold it to my son who swapped out his front bumper and sold it to Bgilbert... ... . I also swapped out a locker and welded diff and sent it with Bill for his pulling truck project. Thanks to Rumblefish I installed the badges on my D350/crew cab and made Bgilbert happy all at the same time!!

The food was awesome this year, everyone brought great stuff, and had plenty to eat, even Friday dinner in town at A&G and breakfast at the Family Resturant was great. As always it was good friends, good food, and awesome trucks. Thanks to all who attended, I hope you had a great time. After the first of the year we will work on the planning for next springs event... ..... now we need to focus on SOP #10 this fall... ...

Michael

Michael,
First, let me apologize for not getting back to you, to say thanks for a great time!
We returned to our South Fork, CO home on Wednesday June 19 to find that there were 3 wildfires burning just to the west of South Fork. (We live on the east side of town. ) Hwy. 160 over Wolf Creek Pass to Pagosa Springs, was ordered closed to all traffic.
The next day authorities ordered an evacuation of the town proper, and all people who lived west of town. We were advised to load any valuables and be ready to leave on short notice.
Today, June 28, residents are being allowed back into town, but are warned to stay alert.
The firefighting crews have done a fantastic job. The 3 fires have burned over 80,000 acres as of today, June 28. So, far, there have been no injuries to people or any loss of homes!

Anyhow, Back to the 1st Gen. meet.
My wife Cathy & I, and my brother Jim, had a great time! It was well worth the 1700 plus mile round trip drive from Colorado. We met some great people, and are looking forward to next year. Michael and his family are great hosts, and he has a super well-equipped shop for those attendees needing (or wanting) to work on their trucks.
Thanks to Michael, Jim and I got an education on modern farming techniques, and technology. It sure ain't like farming when Jim & I were kids!
Michael, thanks again. I have some photos that I hope get posted in the next week.
Jack Dancoe
