How many miles has everyone gotten on their front 4wd hubs before replacement? The wifes 2001 has around 145,000 on and was wondering when I need to do this. Not having any problems just wondering.

Are the hubs available at NAPA? I understand they have to be replaced as a unit, correct?

Thanks Jeff

They are a unit and can be purchased many places. Carquest and Napa both sell them and there is an ebay seller who also caries them. Of course you can get them at the dealer but at a much higher price. I couldn't give you an accurate mileage figure for mine as I have been adding grease to them so I'm cheating and making them last longer than normal. I have a different axle in my truck now so I don't know the exact figure but I know I have put 325k on them myself. If they are original to the axle they have 451k on them. I added grease zerks some time back. See the bottom of my mods page in the signature for information. Lately I have noticed some slight looseness in the left one although I'm not 100% sure it's that and not a ball joint. The right side is completely tight still. I have also never replaced the ball joints.

I replaced my hubs & bearings at 189K and 191K on my 97. The first was shot, the second was preventive maintenance and would have gone another 10K or so. Got them both at Napa for about 190. 00. I'm going to start checking them alot closer by hand rotating each wheel aseembly periodically. It's not fun changing out a hub and bearing in a hotel parking lot in Forsythe, Mt in10 degree weather in December.

I have an 02 4X4, my passenger side failed at 65,000. They (or mine) was a pain to remove. I sugest coating the OD of the new assembly with anti seize before re-installing.

My 96 went 125,000 before both got so loose I had to replace them. I used the NAPA replacements units and had the right one fail again in 15,000. at 170,000 no more issues, 4WD is used frequently.

I've had 10 track bars and 2 axle seals though. No other front end work.
