There may be a post about this, but I could not find it. The problem I am having is this,

My truck does not want to come out of 4WD. I shift from 4 to 2wd, light goes off and only rear wheels are in drive. But the thing is my front driveshaft still spins??I even tried putting the transfer case in neutral and let the truck roll and the front driveshaft still spins. Checked all my connections and stuff, everything seems to me connected and tight. Was thinking possibly a CAD problem?

As I said, when I take the shifter out of 4wheel, all four wheels aren't all being driven anymore. Only the rear wheels are like it does when its normally in 2wd, but the front driveshaft is always turning as if it was in 4wd???

Any Ideas guys?

Thanks,Travis

The vacuum actuator on the front axle may be stuck. Or your transfer case vacuum switch may be bad. I had my switch go bad twice already.

Check to see if you can turn the drive shaft by hand. It's a little stiff, so use a screw driver in the u-joint or something like that. If you can, then it's just some friction causeing it to turn. If you can't then something is still in gear. The front axles always turn because there is a solid connection between the axles and the hubs. The CAD disconnects the passenger side axle parts so there is no solid connection between the differential and the hub. The spider gears turn all the time, but there is no load on the ring and pinion if the CAD has disconnected. Some friction may cause the front drive shift to turn a lot slower than the rear drive shaft but there is no load on it.

If you can apply vacuum at the ports on the vacuum motor I would try that. If you have a bad line to or a bad side on the vacuum motor it could stay hung up engaged (better than not engaging). I had your kind of trouble several times and finally repiped the vacuum system and raised the air inlet way above factory so it wasn't sucking in road splash!!
