I replaced my front driveshaft, but now the 4x4 light on the dash shows opposite of the actual position. This started when I removed the driveshaft, and the light stayed on for a week or so until I had a chance to reinstall it today.

This means I can manually move the shifter through the various 2wd, neutral and 4wd positions, but the 4x4 light on the dash stays on while it's in 2wd, and goes off when in 4wd. The light seems to be the only problem.

Functionally the transfer case and auto trans work fine. Just the light is wrong. Puzzled how to approach this...

the driveshaft had nothing to do with it. i hate it when two things fail about the same time. there is a switch mounted on top of the transfer case i think it is a 1" hex you get to it from underneath they used two different styles in the 03 most have the new process 271d but to be safe use the truck serial number when getting the part

Hmmm, that thought had crossed my mind. Pretty coincidental. I figured I had bumped or jostled something. I'll take a peek. Thanks!

I have another 4x4 indicator light issue. I have an '06 3500 with the electric 4x4 shift system. Before, when I would shift from 2wd to the first 4x4 position, the dash light would light up "4 Wheel Lock", and the second position would light up "4 Wheel Low". Since last Winter, whenever I shift into "4 Wheel Lock" the "Lock" light does not illuminate. The transfer case seems to be shifting properly and I appear to be experiencing the proper four wheel drive functions. Is there some problem with this condition that I should be looking into?? In any event, does anyone know why the "Lock " light does not illuminate?? Thanks, Chuck
