i noticed today that the 4wd engaged but the dash light did not come on. any reason for this? take it to the dealer? easy fix? thanks for the comments. scott.

There are a few easy, yes very easy and will only take a minute or two, places to troubl shoot. First are you sure it ingaged the front axel when you shifted into 4wd? Did the front end try to fight you ? There is a vacume motor on the front axel, passenger side, on the back of the axel. put vehicle in 2wd, note position of vac motor, engage 4wd make sure you rock the truck a few times, and note position. Did it change? If not check for vacume at the vac motor, there should always be vac on one of the two line, one pulls it in, the other pulls it out. If thats working, right on top of the vac motor, is a position switch, it is the switch that confirms that the engagement, or disengagement has taken place (turns the light on , or off on the dash), make sure the harness is pluged-in. If still nothing look for a blow fuse, check wiring.

I am not a moron. I just know it kicks in out when I shift it. I don't need a light to tell me if I am in 4WD or not.

So you trust the vacuum system on your truck to engage the front axle flawlessly EVERYTIME?

I hate the vacuum system, but it is conveniant, so, as long as the light works, I'll use it. When it goes TU I'll convert to hubs or maybe a cable actuater.

Ya know. I never said I trusted the vacuum system just said I know it kicks in and out when I shift it. I can tell when its engaged by the feel of the truck, i. e. how it drives compared to when it isn't. If ya'll want the light to work thats fine. I choose not to worry about it, because I don't need it to work to tell me it's in 4WD.
