I started a thread about doing a 2 low conversion a few weeks ago, and it died after my last question.

So we will try again.

I left off at "What do the vacuum hoses (red and black) do?"

I went out and looked at mine, and in 2 hi the red hose has vacuum and the black does not. When shifting into either 4 hi or low, the black has vacuum and the red does not.

The valve that I have has 4 ports on it (A flows to 1, and B - 2), when activated the the flow is A - 2 and B - 1) So if I am thinking correctly, if I have the red from the transfer case hooked to A, and the black to B, then the hoses to the axle 1 = red and 2 = black, then when activated after shifting into either 4wd option, the vacuum would be switched like it would normally be in 2wd, correct?

Now the transfer case is driving the front drive shaft in 4wd, and the vacuum with the valve activated keeps it in 2wd, I should have the option of 2 low now correct? Is there anything that I missed?

When to activate the valve, before or after I shift the transfer into 4wd, or at the same time?

If the front drive shaft is putting power to the front axle, and the vacuum is running like it would be in 2wd, is any power going to the axle, or just one half (3wd)?

I can help a little.

1. ) Shift transfer case first, then the axle engagement. Do not try to engage while the back tires are spinning.

2. ) Without engageing (sp?) the axle disconnect you will have no power to the front wheels reguardless of whether your front driveline is being powered.

Thought about it, but since I am making my own after market drvie train accessory, I figured this is where it should be. This is the same forum that I started the other thread that died where this one picks up.

Almost 2 days and 70 views, I was hoping for an answer by now.

Sticks,

If the CAD is disconnected but the t-case is in 4wd the front drive shaft is spinning but no power is going to either front wheel. The power is eaten up by the front diff. If you had a limited slip or locker in the front the truck would be in 3wd.

One question for you: have you thought about just dropping in a posi lock and eliminating the vacuum system alltogether? The vacuum set up is the main point of 4wd failure in all DC vehicles, truck or jeeps alike.

I think Bob V's super shifter has an option for 2 low. You may want to chase that lead and see what you find.

I only use the 4wd when the 2wd fails to get me moving in snow/ice/mud. I want the 2lo option for backing up trailers and those times when you want lots o' torque. If I was an avid off road driver, then I would go with the lockers, but my truck is 95% pavement.

Thanks SRadke!

OK, that solves the when to shift the switch, now can anyone confirm that my switch will work?

Sticks, I can help, but it is to hard to do by e-mail, PM your phone # and I will give you a call. The short answer is if the 4WD dash lite is out, the CAD is not engaged.

That simple huh? I will give it a try and see what happens. If I have any issues, I'll get a hold of you. Thanks Bob!
