I have searched old posts and found conflicting information regarding installing 4x4 front coil springs in a 2wd 2500 to achieve a 2" lift. A couple of people have said they have done it while others say they have tried and it won't work. I currently have my front end apart at a shop and asked them to try the swap. They got some Moog cargo coil spring and they obviously won't work. They are too large in diameter. I don't want to have them chasing around other coil springs only to find out that there is no way to make this happen. If you have done this swap, please help me by providing specifics. I feel bad at this point because I told the shop that I read that this swap will and has worked based on information I read here. I would like to save others the trouble of attempting this swap if it really won't work.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

I don't know if it works or not but I've got some 039 springs from a 3500 4x4 if you want them they are yours for the shipping.

Turbo Tim 1,

Thanks for your generous offer. Please email or pm me. I tried to email and pm you but, I don't think it worked. My email is -- email address removed --

Thanks again,

Jeff

I was one of those ones who was going to give that a try. I don't want to start any:-{} (we'll leave that to the Trans guys) but after seeing the springs side by side I don't see how there's any way it would work. Not at least without modifying the 4x4 coil (cutting and grinding). There just isn't enough room, it's a different wire diameter on the coil, and I think you'd be looking at changing the control arms.

I ended up putting the daystar spacers in. Way cheaper, much easier and no problems to date.

Jeff, if you or anyone else in the TDR needs them I have 2 sets of factory coils for a 2500. Each set has less than 5000 miles on them and can be had for shipping costs.

The problem I am having is not the height of the springs but the diameter of the springs. I think 2wd springs are 5. 5 " across. Will someone please measure the 4x4 springs.

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

It looks to me like they are 6. 5 across the top and 7. 5 across the bottom, but I will check my old springs when I get home tonight.

If two inches of lift is all your after, why not just install a Daystar poly spacer. They will run you about $ 150 and very easy to install. also you'll have the same ride quality.

Yikes! Mine cost me 1/2 that much. I do second the suggestion for the spacers though. No issues with control arms, maintain stock springs and ride... ... ... ... ... ... .

The 4x springs, likes me said, are not gonna happen easily. I dont remember exact numbers, but they are wider, and they are TALLER. I looked in to having custom springs made. $$$$$ Too much for what I was trying to accomplish. Wire diameter will certainly effect the ride too. Most aftermarket springs wide grat at first then sag over time, relaxing the lift that was achieved through the expensive springs. Been there, done that. Learned my lessons. If they increase the wire size, you'll hate the ride and complain. So they tend to go for a softer spring.
