I have a '97 3/4 ton. Recently there has been a noise coming from the front passenger side that kind of resembles a stone stuck in the tire. When I took the tire off and grabbed the universal there is some movement and when you spin it it makes a clunking sound that seems to be the sound we were hearing. Any suggestions on how to fix the problem would be appreciated.

Hi Billy,

I did my front left axle shaft u-joint not long ago. The hardest part is removing the rotor & hub bearing assembly. If its never been off, you`ll probably need a big jaw puller.

Hemi, just wondering if you found a replacement U-joint with a grease fitting. I believe in those lubed for life components as much as maitence free batteries.

When my truck went in to the local(only one in 50 mile radius)dealership for new front u-joints(compliments of my extended warranty), I asked for greasable ones, and got them.
So far, so good.

An Update (from the first link in HemiDarts post): 30,000 miles, bearing still happy.
Yes Bill R, I did have the bolts out! #ad

When I do the u-joints, (it's only a matter of time) it'll probably take the flame wrench (for heat) and alot of chain swearing! #ad

Ditto on the NAPA U Joints. Very HD and with a zerk fitting. Expensive, but worth it!!
