Hey gang,

Got a friend with a 99 2500 4x4 gasser:rolleyes:, who only gets about 10-12,000 miles outa front brake pads, no matter what brand he buys. He's tried the same kind I use, I drive hard and get 27-30,000 from a set. The last two times he replaced the pads, he also put on a passenger side caliper each time. The wheel turns as freely as the other side when up in the air.

His truck has full abs, does this sound like a pressure problem perhaps not releasing right after brake use?

Owner says the truck NEVER pulls and the brakes always feel fine. It just wears out ONE pad on the passenger side every time.

Seems like an abs problem, but parts changing and guesswork is too expensive.

If anybody has some thoughts about this, I'd appreciate some input.

Thanks,

Cousin Billy

Try replacing the brake lines.

I changed mine.

Also replace the caliper bolts and be sure to lube the all contact points, caliper to spindle. (critical).

If only one pad is wearing on a given side (most likely the inboard pad) you have caliper sliding problems. When the piston puts pressure on one pad, the rest of the caliper show react to that and pull on the outboard pad, causing the squeeze to stop. When the caliper bolts stick/rust/bind the caliper doesn't pull on that pad and so it never sees any wear.

A new caliper won't help, unless the slide bolts were freed-up and lubed also.

brake trouble

Thanks for the replies,

All of the replies are things that I personally address on a brake job, but I'm not sure if the owner is aware of the proper way to do it. He may just be swappin' parts.

Thanks for your time and input,

Cousin Billy
