Hey fellas, I have a friends with a 92 W250, was helping him move Oak lumber today well when he put the thing in 4wheel drive the whole front end shook, to me sounds like a very overdue U-joint in his 4x4 shaft the only time it does this is when he pulls the stick back and you can feel it a little bit while the hubs are locked in. Does not happen when hubs are disengaged.

My question are these difficult to change or do they have the typical 4 nuts you have to remove to change them out?

Thanks in advance

If the whole front end shook. I would bet it is the u-joints in the front axle and not the driveshaft. Driveshaft would give you some vibration. But most of the time will not shake the front end.

Did you notice the shake worse on a turn? If you did it is the

u-joints in the front axle.

If it is your driveshaft there is a CV joint which is two u-joints connected close together with a large hunk of metal. These are a bear to do properly without experence. The other end is a single u-joint. It isn't hard to replace.

Do a search on CV joints in the first gen section. You will come up with some info on this item.

I think the axle u Joints have been replaced, the only time it happens is if 4x4 is used so we narrowed it down to that drive shaft, i did see the CV boot on their though. I can't imagine that would be to hard if they are just made the way Ujoints are always put together, would anyone happen to have a pic close up because what i saw didn't seem to difficult looking.

Thanks again.
