Found today while truck was jacked up that left front wheel has play like the bearings need to be snuged up a bit. But on a 3500 4X4,I believe the bearings are part of a hub assembly which is secured to the spindle by a 1 11/16" nut. I don't believe this nut will preload the bearings; does this mean the bearings in the hub are shot? If so, where's the best place to buy a new hub? Thanks, Briar

Before you replace the bearing check the four hub-rotor bolts behind the rotor. I've run into ones that have backed off, are missing or broke. Napa carries the hubs.

Ditto Illflem. Some of mine back off. They are a 14mm 12 pt. grade 10 bolt that should be torqued to 125 ft/lbs.

I could only find them @ the stealer for $10 each.

If you have four wheel ABS your only choice for the hub/bearing assembly is the stealer. They only sell the whole assembly with the rotor and ABS sensor for a whopping (ARE YOU SITTING DOWN)$480. 00 per side. If you have rear wheel ABS NAPA has the just the hub/bearing assembly for $230. 00 per side. I would check the (4) 12 point star bolts on the back first. I lost one of mine on the left front, bearing was fine. Right front bearing had play in. If it has play in the hub bearing replace it immediately, it will fail. The hub/bearing is the only thing keeping the front wheel on the truck. Good luck been there done that. Glen

Before you take it apart check the Ball Joints. I had what I thought was a bad wheel bearing and it turned out to be the Lower Ball Joint that had the movement in it.

This is about what NAPA quoted me for my 2500, but I got one from the dealer for $210.

Not too bad of a job. You might want to put a new U-joint in while it's apart. Check your's.
