Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 4x4 Front Axle

Is there any other options for locking the front axle into 4 wheel drive, besides the little vacuum unit they come with from factory? A friend of mine has a 96 ram and has had a terrible time with the vacuum units. Any info would be appreciated. Oo.

There is a cable unit that JC Whitney (and others) has available. It's about $170.

I suppose you could wire it in somehow so it's locked all the time. You probably wouldn't notice a difference. The parts in the axle and differential are moving anyway - in one way or another. I'm not sure whether it's configured so you could easily wire it or not.
