 Has anyone had a problem with the four wheel drive indicator light sticking on? I do not seem to have any problems using 4x4 but the dash indicator light almost never goes out when I shift back out of 4x4 (hi or low). It will, however, start to flicker after several miles in two wheel drive and will usually go out, but may come back on again for no apparent reason at any time. I have no problem telling if the 4x4 is working or not because in winter the roads I usually drive every day are solid ice.

I have had the same problem for about a year now. Bumpy roads tend to send it flickering back and forth. It is annoying, but 4x4 still engages / disengages correctly. Vacuum leak maybe?

Well, I'm searching for an answer to my problem which happens to be exactly as you two explain. My light seems to flicker to the revolutions of my front axle - example: as I slow down, the light flickers slower & slower until I stop, then when I get going..... faster flicker until stady on. 4wd seems to work just fine. Hmmmmmm

Anyone... ... .

TIA

The sensor for the light is on the front axle disconnect. The disconnect is vacuum operated and may not be working properly. IF it were to be stuck in the locked position you would still have 2wd when you kick the lever out because it also disengages in the transfer case. You could tell if it were stuck because the front driveline would turn all the time, even while you're in 2wd.

Mine wasn't flickering, it just wasn't working. I unplugged the harness from the front axle switch, removed and cleaned the switch, installed the switch back in the axle, and spray the harness plug with contact cleaner before plugging it back on the switch. It's been fine for the last three years.
