I tried to update my 97 by installing a 4x4 posi lock, made sense my vacuum actuator was shot and this was cheaper. the product seems simple enough, straight forward install. But i am having trouble with it, it doesn't engage all the way, just when i think its locked in it pops back out. I am really regretting the purchase as of rite now. i am wondering if any one out there has had problems. I have had it apart a bunch of times trying to figure out what is wrong. I have adjusted it multiple times, checked and rechecked. I just could use some input.

i had one on my 98. 5. wrked great but hard to engage till ya got used to it. release pressure b4 ya engage it. make 100% SURE that it is pulled all the way. as dirctions say the last bit of cable travel is VERY importnt. follow directions completly.

Follow these simple steps and you're in control

ENGAGEMENT

Relax the throttle - no acceleration or deceleration.

Shift the transfer case to desired 4x4 mode.

Press the button and pull the cable into full engaged position. (Light on-off throttle action will help align gears for smooth engagement. )

Release the button.

NOTES

2WD Lo-range–Place the transfer case in 4WD Lo range, but do not engage the 4x4 Posi-Lok system. Warning: Do not apply excessive torque in this mode.

DISENGAGEMENT

Place transfer case in 2WD mode.

Press the button, push the cable into full disengaged position, and release the button. If moving, light on-off throttle action will help to relax the drive train.

Disengagement may be easier with some models if the vehicle is stopped and put into reverse for a few inches while pushing the cable in.

it took a few times for me to get hang of it but aftr that, easy to engage. as was mentioned lite on off throttle action will help engagement. and remembr,i cant stress enuff that the last bit of travel in cable be important for positive engagment

if my new dually had the vacumn disconect id be instlling the 4x4posi-lok

Mine works great. It can be a little tough to engage while moving down the road at speed. I found it much easier to engage if I were in the driveway and moving just a little bit very slowly. I then leave the front locked and pull the TC lever when I need 4X4. I'd double check that the fork is on correctly and that the locking collar moves easily over the splines.

Did you check the splines on the shaft? I'm having similar issues w/my 97. Can't get enough vac to keep 4x4 in, so I'm looking into the Posi-Lok kit too. I have a post on DieselRam.com asking for input into this problem. Good luck. :)

As mentioned above, it takes some getting used to but once you get it down it works great. I pull mine out then turn the wheel back and forth while still pulling on it and then it will come out that additional little bit that tells me its engauged, then I screw the knob down so it can't disengauge.
