Dodge seems to be real good at this.

First it was the 1st gens with 5spds and intercooling.

Then 2nd gens with extra cab/shortbed and 12 valves.

Now 3rd gens in mega cab and with a 5. 9.

Dodge has a way of making rarities.

Maybe I should start hunting... ... .

Yep, it is weird, I have one of the last 5. 9s and one of the first Megas. And the only year of the 5. 9 with the upper Cummins badge location. It isn't hard to spot an '06, unless its debadged.

The early 07's will be 5. 9's. There is supposed to be an 07. 5 with the 6. 7 Cummins.

I saw an 07 on a transport that said 2500 Heavy Duty ( A badge similar to the 2nd gen on the door). I'm assuming they just added the HD badge to the truck and that it is not any different.

Craig, you going to be home tomorrow? I'm headed up to Conifer around 10-11. I am moving buy may be able to stop by for a few.

I was at the dealer yesterday for the annual inspction. They had several '07s in inventory. All were 2500s and the Diesels were all 5. 9s. The only exterior changes I saw were the door badging - it is a single piece proclaiming 'Ram', '2500' and 'heavy duty', kind of like the 2nd gens but higher on the door under the mirror. The other difference was the taillights - I guess they're suppoesed to mimic the Durango, but to me they look like they were swiped from a Chevy.

bkaiser,

The headlights are different also. The '06s have a horizontal strip at the bottom and the '07s don't. I'm not sure if thats a reflector or a turn signal or what-I can't recall.

All of them manufactured after January 1, 2007 have to abide by the new emissions regulations which means they have to have the 6. 7l. Depending on when they run out of 5. 9's, etc production could start earlier but you definatley will not see a truck roll off the assembly line after January 1 with a 5. 9 - and they'll still be 07's.

Just like the '98 12-valve was the last of a great one, so will the 5. 9 be at the end of this year. I think "Oh-Seven five point nine" will become the next "Ninety-Eight Twelve Valve" buzz phrase among the Dodge Cummins crowd.

Speaking of rarities, you could add '99 and '00 6-speed trucks to the list, along with '98 (and especially '99) Club Cab Rams (in the 6-1/2 years I've been part of this group I've seen only ONE solitary '99 Club Cab!). And one last thing, there were a few 2nd Gen 12-valves that didn't come from the factory with a catalytic converter. . . all those built before 1/1/94. All the rest, until the 24v came out, came with kittys.
