Where did all the pages go?

Who has gone from a Hughes to a top-end torque converter?

Has anybody had any 5. 9's with excessive end play?? I just came across 2 engines with MONDO crankshaft end-play. The one in my truck has so much end play that the converter bolts have cut a groove in the adaptor plate!! My "spare" engine seems to have lots of slop also. Is it comon in these engines?? I have one truck with 412K on it and no end-play problems. Was there a thrust bearing problem with the gen 1 engines?? Your opinions/ help would be great!! RE: 92 W250, aprx. 150K miles, auto trans. Thanks. ... spike,,,

These engines have ENORMOUS thrust bearings. They should have very little, if any, end play..... sounds like you have someone else's headache...

Typically too much time in the torsional harmonics zone and it hammers the thrust bearings out. Some people ABSOLUTELY could not stand to drive them over 1900 rpms, too noisy I guess. :-laf

The other zone is around 2300-2400, right where a loaded truck is running to and shifting all the time. More frequently it waslo rpm operation that got them though as the higher one is not as bad.

Just depends on how they were used and driven.

The 5. 9 only has 1/2 of a thrust bearing & it's not that uncommon for it to break off. I've seen several enginge where the bearings were still in good shape, but thrust was broken off and laying in oil pan. Installed new thrust & all was good.
