I got the truck with a chip in the truck it has gets 20 to 23 driving down the road I am not complaining about that! But I want to know what I have for a chip how do I find that out? And would it be ok to but a smarty in it or a edge?

Is the 20-23 what is indicated on the overhead? If so you are getting no where near that mileage. Try doing a hand calculation.

If it has a "chip" you need to locate it and find what it is. More likely you have a pressure box like a Edge EZ. You have to know what is there before you can start looking at stacking.

Yes that what it says on the overhead. So what kind of thing would you use to find out what it had in it before? there is no box under the hood I don't know where I can locate it at. I just want to put a programer in the truck so I can get more power out of it and still get the good MPG.

I've seen pressure boxes mounted under the Dash and under the hood.

Smarty SR or JR can help mileage if you keep you foot out of it. Since you didn't say what year you have a 06-07 can use EFI live which is better than Smarty. If you don't have a EGT gauge you will want one before adding any additional power.

You need to get a hand calculated mileage before adding anything. The overhead isn't called a Lie-O-Meter for nothing.

CR's don't get chipped, they get programmed or modules added.

How do you know it is modified?

As stated your overhead mileage is off, probably around 20% high.

If the truck is programmed you will need to have a stock tune put in it before programming with a Smarty, and I would do that before an Edge as well. The Edge isn't very favored on CR's, they run hotter than they should.

The truck is a 2005. I will check it next time when I fill up! The truck has a Vonant Diesel cold air intake and the truck is 4" straight piped but I don't have a lot done to the truck. But I would love to put more things on the truck to get more power.

You Play...... You PAY! You can't just arbitrarily "ADD" a bunch of power without strengthing the parts behind the engine. Is your trans stock? Automatic? Stick?

It is a stock automatic trans... I do know I need something to back it up the problem is that the trans that I have in the truck now shift wearied going into over drive. I went and got it serviced and they said something out this trans that they always but in there trucks has a twin clutch in the torque convertor that beats twinTurbo and nos. I don't know if that is true or not but I need to find out what is wrong with my trans before I add a lot of stuff that will brake something that will cost me a lot.

Welcome to TDR, your truck is a mystery to us here, by the way your describing it. You should not add anything to the truck until you know what you have and know the power your running. First step in modifying a CTD with an automatic (any stock version) is to upgrade it. Then you can add power, but know what you have first.

Really? If the guy isn't a typing wonder but is a TDR member let's help instead of cutting on his grammar. Just my opinion. This site is wonderful and he needs help. Don't scare or **** him off. Enjoy the summer, Herb

I agree totally, the guy asks for help and gets kicked in the teeth for his grammar!

JaDeJ, tell us some more specifics about your truck. What make you think there is a "chip" on it? There are several good power adders out there but your week point is the 48RE automatic. If you are looking for more power, how much?

Anyway welcome to TDR and although some people are the grammar Nazi's (while I double check my grammar) you can get a lot of good information here.

I have seen chips that are just resistors wired in parallel with control wires under the hood that tricks the ECU. Simple and may work but not sure at what cost. You can see them on EBay for fairly cheap.

I am not really sure what it has in it. I can not find any thing any where. Someday I will need a new Transmission it goes in and out of one gear and the other when I'm going up a hill. I toke it to the transmission shop near were I live and they said if I the transmission often it will be okay. But It is still not doing right I do not know what is going on do you have any suggestions?

Gear seeking on a auto is normal on steeper grades or under load. You probably are getting some slow down, down shift, speed up and then repeat. Higher gear doesn't have power to maintain speed so it down shifts. Shift out of OD when it starts it and just stay in direct until up the grade.

:-laf:-laf:-laf Now thats funny, its been almost boring here, not having to read the crap that HBarlow would complain about.

The trans when pushed, will react like that, you need to turn off overdrive when the pressure builds when climbing grades. And a slight incline can cause that as well. When I decided to get a CTD in 04, I wanted a Manual because I hated that phenomena with my 94 2500 5.9 gasser with the auto.

it goes in and out of one gear and the other when I'm going up a hill.

That doesn't really define a problem. Any transmission will do that at a certain speed, throttle, and load. How fast are you going and how steep is the hill? What gears is it in and out of?

The stock transmissions have a problem with shuttle shift at low throttle opening but that is sometimes an easy fix. If you can define the situation and problem a little better thta will help with some advice.
