I have both, 1 to 2 min to have enough heat to melt ice. 15 to 20 min on the road to full temp. An exhaust brake will extreme help and reduce warm up time at idle.

I also use a winter front and plug in. I have (some) heat right at startup. I start the truck, turn on the exhaust brake and high idle while I coil up my extension cord. I'll say that in less than 3 minutes the truck is plenty warm and the windshield is pretty clear from the defroster.

How long does it take to get heat out of your vents in the winter? Do you plug it in or have a winter cover?

With no plug in or winter front about 3 miles local streets to highway and warm air coming from vents with only 1 min warmup. Full temp on gauge takes about 10 miles on highway.

Here in North Dakota I could drive my 10 miles from work to home and have no heat in the dead of winter when I got there. I bought the Mopar winter front and the truck was a 180 difference. I'd have heat in about 3 to 5 miles. The white smoke dropped to almost nothing. Night and day different. Put in on in November and take it off in March. Mornings were not a problem, heated garage!

Plug it in. The thermostat has to open before any heat comes out. Takes about 5-6 miles before it does. I don't plug mine in too much because of the heated leather seats. I also go about 275lb these days.

Feel the heater hoses & they R hot B4 the thermo opens...

Engine temp food 4 thought. .

Here's a little background on the Ford Powerstroke thermostat...

203* IS THE TEMPERATURE THAT NAVISTAR DESIGNED YOUR TRUCK TO RUN AT. THIS IS THE THERMOSTAT THAT WAS AND STILL SHOULD BE IN EVERY POWERSTROKE 7. 3L. Until 1996, all 7. 3L Powerstrokes that were manufactured used an International water pump and an International short stem 203o thermostat . In 1996, Ford changed to a lower degree 195o thermstostat. They changed water pump designs at this time as well. The new pumps required the new long stem 195o thermostat in place of the short stem to properly seat the bypass disk. All 1996-2003 Ford PSDs now come equipped with a long stem 195o thermostat. Recently the factory replacement thermostat available at the parts counter changed to 192o. Our Dieselsite 203* uses the correctly sized t-stat with the correct temperature spring so that we no longer have to give up the benefits of running our vehicles where they were meant to run.
