Automatic transmission question

Auto Trans Trouble

I just put the #5 i this morning... . hardly any difference than the modified stock plate adam made me... could it be the torque converter is slipping?

You are not going to get much power to the ground with a stock TC. In addition to that, the line pressure is too low to hold the clutches if you some how manage to get the power thru the TC. TST says that a stock auto trans won't hold the power from a #5. I dunno if the BD plate is the same as a TST or not. If you try it with the TCC locked a #5 plate will do in your TC before too long. If you are going to BOMB an auto truck you gotta do the trans.

Greg,

Travis told me that you did the plate and not the injection nozzles yet. With that mileage, it's time to yank those nozzles and put something hearty in. Also, if that's the stock transmission, it's time to say bye-bye and go with (to be politically correct) a complete aftermarket transmission system. Then you'll start to see some power. Also, if that's the stock 12 cm housing, time to up the ante to a 16, or a whole new HX40. Mileage alike, the turbo has done it's duty if you haven't already replaced it. While you're at it, try doing a fuel pressure test. It's likely the engine is shaking, and that could be either the overflow valve or the transfer pump, or both. Gotta cover the basics before moving on. That plate with the stock nozzles is only gonna add more stress to the barrels in your pump.

Check my sig...

I did the same thing with the same results. The biggest bang came with the T/C and the second biggest with the injectors.

Adam helped me with my camplate when I first started Bombing. So, I have a good idea what has been done to your 'stock' plate. My 'stock' camplate will outpower a TST #4. I'm not surprised that you aren't impressed with a #5.

I don't know if you've upped your stock VB line pressure yet, but do that soon. It doesn't cost anything! Directions are on this site somewhere.

You need to avoid abusing your lock up clutch when possible. :)

If you run your high idle screw in all the way, the stock TC will pull MUCH harder.

You'll need to readjust your kickdown cable to deal with the longer travel of the throttle. If not, you'll pull the linkage off the transmission and slip clutches.

The high idle screw made a bigger difference for me than taking my camplate out when I had the stock TC. (did I say that?)

More RPM really helps.

Good luck,

Chris
