Just figured I'd give the big `ole Roger Ebert style thumbs up for the single 5" (tip-out) stack... . just finished putting it on at 1AM this morning.

It's "ghetto-fabulous"... but it works... .

The truck sounds like an Oshkosh cement mixer on crack now... . :D

Your ears will ring if you drive with the rear slider open... but with the rear slider closed... it's quieter than it was when it was straight-piped.

The looks I get around here are priceless... ... :-laf

Driving to work (slave labor... ) I made her smoke as I got off the off-ramp this AM and the dude behind me jacked on his brakes... he was scared of the soot!! HA!

Gotta love it, eh, Matt?

I know what ya mean about the rear slider, but its nice every now and then when sitting at a stop light and a gentle whiff of diesel comes in:D

stack wobble

Matt, when we installed my brothers 4" tip out stack on his powerstroke, we cut a piece of 1/4" flat 5"wide by 8" long and drilled a 4" in the flat and stuck a 4" adapter that 4' id on one end and 4" od on the other end. Drilled the 4" hole in the bed and from the under side put the plate up to the bed floor, with the 4" id side up and used four 5/16 bolts and drilled the plate in each corner and bolted it to the bed floor and that made the stack nice and solid. The exhaust system on the straight shot going back to the box we installed a [foot long] piece of 4" flex pipe, so when the engine twists it can flex there and not break any exhaust pipe. Sorry for the long post. P. S. I would like to see some pictures with a little smoke coming out of the big stack!!:D

I'm kinda confused about using this plate... . I understand how it's mounted to the bed... . but nowhere did you mention how it helps to stabilize the pipe.....

A pic would help... . :D

I know... I gotta get some pics of the stack installed and SMOKIN!

stack brace

The plate that we drilled the 4" hole into, we stuck the 4" id to od adapter into the plate and welded the adapter to the plate and then bolted it to the box, Thats how the stack was stiffened up so it wouldn't wobble. Then we used a 4" band clamp and slid the stack over the adapter pipe that was sticking up into the bed and tightened the band clamp and the stack was very solid. Hope this helps

Okay, now that makes perfect sense.....

Is this the preferred method? I didn't do much research on the stacks before I did mine... . I just did it... . like Nike says :p

I ghetto-rigged up some 1/4" x 1" aluminum flat stock by bending it into odd shapes that would form an exhaust hanger... ... . clear as mud?

... . wait for the pics! haha

Matt

I have a bracket kinda like that coming in the mail!

Is that the only thing holding the stack to the bed?

How did you do the plumbing underneath?

I made two pretty beefy brackets but the thing still shakes when I hit a bump... . I hope the new bracket will help...

Matt

Okay... thanks to Turbos4Life, I now have a pic of my stack!

Sorry, but I couldn't get a pic of her smokin' yet... . but you can bet your butt I'll get one!

Matt

BTW, the reason it shakes so much with the current setup is due to the flexibility of the sheet metal on the front-bed wall. My brackets are kinda beefy, but what they are attached to is not. I'm still not 100% pleased, but I'll keep you all updated on my newer versions... . look for a release of version 2. 0 soon!

Nice job, but regarding the stack, some states have laws that if the exhaust is being discharged horizontally, it has to be less than 2 ft. , or higher than 11 ft. Heights may vary, but I don't think any allow exhaust discharge between 6 to 8 ft. I originally had my stack discharging to the side at 8. 5 ft, but changed it to a straight up pipe with rain cap at 9. 5 ft. high. I noticed I was blasting the truck tractor and city bus drivers with the exhaust discharge at that level.

Your state may not have any laws regarding what I said above, but might be good to check.

Looks great double H  , but I'd turn that stack rearward a bit... remember, just like Claymore mines... . Front Towards Enemy :D

I had the stack rearward... . but other people have told me to keep it like it is for noise reasons... . it seemed to help get rid of some of the drone versus the original straight-back position.

The top of the stack is only about 4-5" taller than the cab... . so I'm at like 7'.....

No complaints so far... . it's just mighty loud in the cab... until I fix it up the right way... :D

Thanks to all for the kind words!

Matt

My first stack (side discharge) was extremely loud in the cab with the windows down under load. Just cruising on the level or downhill was not bad at all. With the windows up, pretty quiet. Noise level got cut down by about 60% after I raised it a foot higher and straight up discharge. The top of my stack is now a foot higher than my flatbed headboard.
