DANG!

I hate it when this crap happens. I bring in a brand new truck to have Line-X sprayed in (they did a very nice job there- anyway), but they scratched my truck in several spots - mostly on the dually fenders.

It's one of those things where I know it happened there, but you can't "prove" it. The place is reputable and is taking responsibility despite the fact they believe they didn't do it. I applaud their intent, but dang it's such a shame!!

I got two quotes: One wants to pull the fenders off and sand everything and repaint, etc...

The other (which is the Collision Center the dealer built) says that it isn't necc. for this type of job and they offer a lifetime guarantee.

The first quote was over 3 times that of the second. My dilema is that I want it returned to "new" condition, but don't want to screw anyone here. The Line-X place has agreed to pay for the repair at the dealer Collsion Center (and I've seen some of their work - it looks fine).

Just venting! UGH!

I know how you feel. The dealership mechanics dented my fender on the truck's first service. Really made me angry. The paintless dent guys fixed it. Then a glass shop scratched my front fenders installing a new windshield. They also made a mess with urethane everywhere, etc. I had no faith that the window was even installed correctly. Now, I do a walk around inspection before AND after I drop my truck off anywhere to have any work done.

I do a walk around before and after too. My dealership did a couple of things to my '03 (dent, grease on the interior, etc). They started doing a walk around as well before and after they worked on my truck:D . I guess they took my *****ing seriously.

The Line-X dealer here crushed my passenger side mirror when pulling the truck into the bay! It just happened I was watching at the time, so they had to pay for a new mirror.

my dad let the line x guys know not to put dents or scratches in his new truck, especially when they had to replace the right side and bottom due to bubbling...

THe losers who did my bedliner dented my truck too, but they refused to accept any responsibility for it. Next time my truck goes in for service anywhere I will make them walk around with me and note the absence of dings and dents and it better be that way when I pick it up.

While good workmanship is rare we also have a an issue with the quality of paint on our trucks and the thickness of metal. Because of that it is even more important to do a "walk around" when leaving our rigs. I seem to wipe the paint off everytime I touch my truck. Trucks in my past had much harder paint that looked good for years (70's) and denting is so easy. I pulled out from under my camper a little crooked and the corner pushed a 1" deep dent 12" long in the box fender. Like an aluminum can. I don't think my 76 Ford ever had much more than a ding in the fender and we used it hard. Even my 93 Chev (which seemed like a pop can at the time) fairs better than my new Dodge. I am putting a "rough and tumble" flatbed on the back in a couple weeks with built in tool boxes and saddle tank. Then I feel I can "work" it. George

We do bed liners down here. We make the owner do a walk around with us. We do not allow any drop offs. We use cotton bed spreads under all of our drop cloths. If we did any damage to any truck we would take complete responsiblity. Its not a matter of you getting someone in trouble, its a matter of workmanship and pride. Take it back and see what cost hes willing to help you out with. I know the truck is never the same after its been redone in the paint shop, but you should have to pay for their poor judgement.

I feel your pain. On my 97 ram someone at the dealer must of backed up my truck in to a light pole and dented my rear bumper. I made them replace it.

My 03 i just took it to the dealer for some warrenty work. When i picked it up i did not notice anything because it was raining but when i got home i notice a nice size chip in the door. I know it wasn't there when i drop it off.

I went to rent a woodchipper when my truck was 2 weeks old and when i came out one of the monkeys that works there had his body leaning in top of my dulley fender putting some stuff in the back of the truck. I lost it on him. He scratch it to the point i had to wet sand and buff it.

I can keep going on.

Some people think all P/U trucks are work trucks and don't give a **!$.

That's exactly it.

But I'll give some Kudo's. The place the did my Rhino. When I dropped it off, I had some dents inside the bed and on the inside fender wells, They fixed the dents free of charge before they sprayed the liner.

Most people do not think of a truck the same way we do! ;)

Some guy ran a red light and hit my wife's 2 week old Jeep TJ a while back and when I took it to the bodyshop, I told them " I don't care how long it takes or how much it costs, I want the repair to be done to the level where I can't find any evidence of the damage". Having been in the business of selling paint and body supplies for many years, as well as buying and selling cars as a hobby, I know what to look for but was pleasantly surprised when I went to pick it up. repainted fender was a perfect match and I literally couldn't have spotted the damage. Paid him an extra $100. 00 and went away happy.

My point is that to most people a car is just a car and a truck is just a truck. I make sure they know how I feel.

thanks for the posts - I told them before they got in the truck that it is 5 days old! I told them it was my baby, etc... and they assured me they would take care of it.

They said they are going to pay for the repair - so I applaud their willingness to make me a satisfied customer.

It's funny, on my last truck, I went to pick up a pallet of pickets for a fence I was building at home and I swear the kid on the forklift whacked the inside of the bed (on the wheel well) with the pallet on purpose... I watched him center it perfectly and then whap the side?! Luckily I had the spray in liner and it didn't do a damn thing to it :)

Yesterday my wife was shopping and came out to find a Cadillac's bumper pushing in her Volvo's bumper. The car was still touching - the person didn't even attempt to back up or anything. She called the cops and found out the birthdate of the person who owned the car. Their birth year was 1929

Enough said... .

Warning! "Blue Hair Alert!":-laf Ever notice when driving a two-lane highway their running about 40 to 45 mph,but when on the interstate heading to the casino will pass you running about 85 or 90 mph. :-laf

My new truck is over @ my dealer having clearance lights put on,they just called and said it was done,BUT we scratched the roof and we will take care of it. . I am afraid to look.

I know old people that act and perform like they are very young. I also now very young people that are falling apart.

My motto is stay 18 between the ears and one other place that I can't mention on the forum.

LOL Scooby :-laf

We just took the keys away from my Grandpa Mac before he got in any scrape-ups like these. He was born in 1920.
