From one Kurt to another, those are great lookin' stacks. I've gotta know where you got the stack kit. That is definitely the best looking set-up I've seen. Not having to go under the frame rail on the driver's side is ideal. Congrats on a great lookin' truck... . I think I'm jealous :D

I want to do this to my truck too.

I have a problem or so though.

I have a camper on my truck.

I am thinking about routing the pipes around the corner of the bed, so they can go pointing up on the outside of the bed, instead of on the inside.

I have a dually, so I think 5"+ coming up along the side of the bed would look descently cool. Especially if they could be smokey.

Anythoughts?

Check out KOAMAN's truck. He posted pics a while back in a thread called Exhaust Pictures or something close to that. He's got a single stack on the passenger side on the outside of the bed.

My friend greg own's the Custom Muff shop (Mighty Muffler) in Phx AZ where we installed the exhaust.

He owns a dodge CTD 3500 (97' I think)It has side pipes that sound great . I have been trying to get him hooked on Torque. His father also has a CTD with a banks kit. And he has driven that and was mildly impressed.

He let me use a bay in his shop for three days while I drove all over Phx finding Exhaust, Turbo and Lift pump Bombing parts. I was patient and he would work on it for five or ten min's at atime when he could squeeze it in. On the third night he worked on my truck till midnight! The next day I handed him the keys and he came back HOOKED! :D He wants to start Bombing ASAP!

To make a LONG post short. I am putting together the part#'s and sizes for the exhaust kit like the one pictured and also one that the bottom of the "T" section is reduced to 4" as most people can then buy the 4" Turbo Back systems available out there and have very little custom work to do.

Greg will then order them direct from the manufactuer and stock them. If we can buy 5 to 10 sets at atime it will save us all alot of $$$.

The Parts Pictured fit in the Bed without any Cutting or fitting of the exhaust at all. The only part that I made was the center bracket that supports the "T". The lower band clamps are standard and the upper clamps are a Kenworth # that also has brackets that bolt perfectly to the front bed rail. The only custom work involved is cutting a hole in your bed floor. .

Hooking up to a 3" or 4" exhaust would be easy for most local muff shops. We may make a special elbowed 4" pipe to fit from the "T" to your current exhaust so you could install the complete stack "KIT" at home. We also may cut the 5" system under my truck back off and use it for a Pattern for a Large manfacturer to make manderal bend style kits to the Turbo. If there was a LOT of interest.

So much for the short post. It is real nice not blowing my Smoke and Noise in other drivers faces when I stand on the throttle a little. :D

KWIKKURT, thanks for all the info. If we're lookin' at less than $500, sign me up, I want one. I feel kinda guilty driving around town, blowin' smoke at everybody. Even if I'm takin it easy, seems to happen too often. Would definitely be great to point it skyward, looks great too!

Thanks again. Feel free to send me email regarding price/availability of this kit. Sign me seriously interested.

Kurt, I would love to have that set up, my only concern is where the 4" BD brake would be installed. Any ideas ?

I have wanted to do the 5" stacks for a long time but the only place I could find that could do them wanted $700  !! If the prices are below that then I'll take a set!

Stack kit

Kurt keep us informed on the stack kit if you make it happen.

It looks real good and a do at home job would be just what the DR. ordered. :)

Thanks

Cliff

Exhaust Stack Parts / Kits

I am working on it. I have been researching tons of info. It should all come together very soon. The last info that I need was delayed for a week because of some big Truck east coast show. I wanted so many different specs and prices that they were not able to finish up a Bid for me. I am checking on Dozens of different parts, sizes, and materials. ( Alumized, Stainless, Polished stainless and Chrome). I just found a manufacturer that is making a Short 5" resonator... . It should be perfect for many of our trucks... ..... I will keep you all posted... It will be worth the wait!!:D

On that kit, I was wndering if you could do a 4 inch pipe to two 5 inch stacks? The 4 inch pipe would end right after it came through the bed. Also can you get the 5 inch stack to be bent on top instead of angle cut? There is a big demand on the TDR for stacks, I think you could easily sell 20 or more sets.

Which one would sound better, a complete 5 inch system or a complete 4 inch system with 5 inch stacks? Wouldn't the 4 inch exhaust with the igger stacks sound better than the full 5 inch exhaust? Any help on this issue would be great.

Jacob082, They will be avail in 4", 5", and believe it or not up to 8". there is a couple of parts that I plan on having custom built so that most of the systems will be bolt in kits. The most difficult part will be cutting the hole in the bed. If you don't count expaining more bombing to the "Wife"!:). Currently there is 4 or 5 different styles of stacks that I am working on and several different stacks for the dually and stake bed trucks that want to go outside the bed. Just wait a few more days and I will have Pictures, Exact dimensions and prices. It will be a snap to hook up to the 4" systems that most Bombers are running to help with Egt's... . Later Kurt.

There should be no difference in a 4" exhaust to 5" T and then 5" stacks... Mine sounds Awsome!!! I will have the specs on a Resonator or two and most guys should be able to keep their Performance mufflers. That is one of the issues that I am addressing is the Bomber that wants to be Quiet when he is sneaking into the driveway at 2:00am and still have the Big Rig sound when going thru the gears. Kurt

Actually I was wondering about the sound of a complete 4 inch exhaust with only 5 inch stacks. I have heard that the bigger stacks act like megaphones for the sound, like echo tips. I was wondering if there is anyone who can comment on this and if Kurt could do this.

Jacob,

The 5" stacks will Deepen the sound Both from the increased size and the Dual stacks. And yes it will be no problem running 4" back to the bed floor and then increasing at the T to 5". This will be how most stack setups will be done. I have already spec'd the 4" to 5" T and should have prices any day. I am trying to have made a clamp or weld on 4" pipe for going from the 4" under the truck up around the driveshaft and thru the bed floor. Then the install would not even require any Custom exhaust shop work. Saving time and money.

On my truck I started with a 3" OEM exhaust that the Muff & Resonator had "Fallen Off" It sounded Good but was to loud for my taste.

Then while building the 5" system I installed the stacks first 5" down thru the bed floor and foward 1. 5ft to the 3" existing exhaust. It was great sound. It has the deeper sound that sounds like the Big Rigs. Then we finished the 5" exhaust from behind the turbo back to under the cab. I installed a bombed 5" x 18" long straight thru muffler. It was the least restrictive Muffler that I could find on short notice. It has the same deep power sound that it had before but is quieter.

I plan on removing the Muff and installing a Resonator that I found It should lower the Decibels 5 to 9 and offer no restriction. Then I am modifing the Muffler so I can change the Packing material without removing it from the truck. I want to see how much I can lower the DB levels with out losing the Deep diesel sound and with out adding any restriction.

Ok, I think I will go with a 5 inch t section instaed of a 4 inch t section and 5 inch stacks. Will the resonator go at the beginning of the 5 inch section? I will have a 4" downpipe with the 4" D-Celerator exhaust brake then going to a 4 to 5 adapter to the complete 5 inch dual stack kit.

Jacob, The resonators normally go infront of the Muff if you have one. So I would install it after your exhaust brake but before the pipe goes up thru the bed floor. I am still looking for a 4" version. The 3" and 5" I have found. It is short so the 5" could easily be installed with 4" to 5" reducers.

Jacob, Feel free to "e" or private message "pm" me. We can discuss your questions in more detail and not fill up TDR's servers memory or storage space... Thanks Kurt
