Is anyone out there running a 5" exhaust system, with or without muffler? How does it sound? Is it louder than a straight 4" system? My local exhaust shop can get me a good deal on a 5" system. Oo.

I'd post your quoted "good deal" on here before laying down cash or a check. Sometimes what some shop can convince you to be a good deal can still be had for less elsewhere.

I've been running 5" for a little over a year and a half. It sounds great (no muffler). If you can weld I would encourage you to build your own 5". I spent a little over $150 on the parts and fab'ed it together in a couple of hours.

I've had 5" for over three years. It's a deeper sound than the 4". Mine has a straight through muffler and sounds good until you tow a trailer for 10-12 hrs. You'll have a headache after 2hrs. 2200 rpm is where you get lots of drone. I pulled the interior and put 3 layers of torch on roofing on the floor, two on the walls, 3 on the back wall plus 1" dense foam on the back wall. Now the cab is quieter than stock, but outside is still loud enough to get peoples attention when they don't move over for you and you eventually blast them when you go around them. I wouldnt go 5" mufflerless unless you have twins or unless your already deaf, then it wont bother you.

Garry.

I have been running the 5" since I put twins on my truck. Its about half as loud as a straight piped 12v. The second turbo muffels it quite well.

I have the BullyDog 5" exhaust on my 24V. I find it to be louder than any 4" with a muffler. It uses a straight thru 5"inlet/outlet muffler and really lets you hear the turbo whistle. :)

I found alot less lag with this system than with my old stock exhaust which was straightpiped.

Built my own with the Twins also, except I run a truck resonator. It has a slight rumble at 1400 but is quiet on the road. I got a 10FT stick of Donaldson pipe that is . 060 thick and have the resonator right in front of the rear end then over the rear and out the side to a turn down. I have a bit more in it to the tune of $290. 00. Call around to the truck supply places and see what the cost is.

Didn't like the sewer pipe out the side.

The tailpipe is a two piece setup which cost $135. 00 and a stick of 5" pipe is $50. 00. I am going to order tommorow and will find out next week how much different it sounds than my current 4" straight pipe system. Oo.

Curious

I'm running a 4 inch exhaust system on my truck. I don't want to upgrade to 5 inch, but I do have a question on the installation. I am very close to the transmission cross member on my truck and I'm not sure I could get a bigger system in without making contact with the crossmember. Has that been a problem for any of you?

John, If it's very tight by the crossmember, I'd assume the 1/2" steel round stock that attatches to the transmission bracket already came welded on to your 4"tubing. Maybe not exactly in the right spot. This is always the last piece I weld on to the system. If that's the case, cut it off, move the 4" tubing to where it clears the crossmember, and then re weld the 1/2" round stock on to the tubing. You could probably fit a 6" exhaust through there in a pinch. (it would be very tight though)

I know someone who is trying. He needs to find another piece or two though.
