Driving a 2004 with 74,500 miles on it when the #5 injector line cracked and sprayed diesel throughout the engine compartment. Was fortunate to be near a mechanic who spotted the problem and it was quickly fixed. After reading some posts on TDR I see that the #4 is the most often the one to fail so people carry a backup with them just in case.

I plan to buy a #4 injector line ASAP and was wondering if it is a big deal and safe and/or tricky to change? I will be carrying one in my glove box with a wrench as insurance. Perhaps should also carry a #5 since it was the one that failed.

I found the injectors are carried by Geno's Garage and are available on line.

One more thing, what do you all do to clean the engine after something like this?

GT :)

The lines are susceptible to corrosion and can all crack if they are bad enough. #4 has an updated clamp that is supposed to help. All the rest of the lines likely have updates. If in doubt, replace them all and you should have little to worry about.
