Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) 5" resonator

I just put a 5 inch straight exhaust on the 98, and was wondering if a resonator would kill the drone at freeway speeds or am i doomed I like the sound, but it could be quieter and the drone is very annoying. I expected some drone but crap, my factory tape deck won't even power through it. any suggestions before i sink another $100 into this exhaust.

I added a donaldson resonator to mine and it didn't make a whole lot of difference. I also liked the sound, but the drone is awful. Mine had 4. 10 gears so it was really loud at 55-60, but the drone eased up around 70. Next time I put an exhaust on, it will be 4" and I will get something proven to have no drone.

Man I'd think that Kittitas Valley gale would carry most the drone away for you

Seriously what muffler you have on probably makes more of a difference. The 5" I had on my '01 didn't drone much. I don't remember what brand of muffler I had though, traded the truck off years ago.

I had a 5" staright pipe on my 98 and the drone was starting to give me migranes. I went ahead and turned it into a 5" single stack and the drone went completly away. Go figure.

No problem with drone and my stacks. Horrible drone with a straight piped 5" system I had before. Used a Dynaflex resonator from www.iowa80.com No more drone.

Well, I stuck a donaldson muffler on- problem solved. still a little drone, but I can hold a conversation with my wife (ewww!) with my "inside" voice. our donalson vendor says its the same as the one Stans uses on thiers. it has a soft plug in the middle that you can knock out if you want it staight through. I left it in, because I would have no idea where to buy a 5 inch soft plug if it was too loud. thanks for the help guys.

well i have a 4" system straight piped with a resonator ( i think its a walker ) on it and i love the sound but at certain rpm and certain speeds the drone is bad, i don t think it make a difference between 4" or 5 " pipe
