5 spd trans Shifter?

My son just called. He's pulling his NV 5 spd for an overhaul,he can't figure how to pull the shifter off to get the trans out. Your Quick input would be appreciated. He has a 96 3500 and the trans has never been out before. Thanks.

That's easy.........

Pull the boot up out of the way and there is 4 bolts underneath. Take these out, and the shifter lifts right out... ... ... ... ... .

I've had the trans out on my 94 2x now & always turned the piece in the center that's spring loaded push down & turn counterclockwise to remove it. it comes out alot easier than it goes in.

Bob is right for your year. You can use a screwdriver against the cone and rap it with a hammer to push down and counterclockwise. James is right for 1998-up trannies.
