I recently pulled my 2wd nv4500 to do a rebuild. The rebuild went well. I put in new bearings and synchros, along with a couple gears. With the trans on the bench i put the newer style top cover off of a 96 and up and shifted through all gears smoothly and worked correctly. I installed the transmission. I started the truck and put in reverse to back out of the shop and truck acted like the trans was bound up and wouldnt go. I put in neutral and let out the clutch and same thing, bound up and stuck in some gear(s). Put a load on motor but no movement. Anyone ever experience this before?

sounds like you may have it in two gears at the same time, were all of the shifting

shafts in line when you put the top cover on, in other words in neturtal?

yes the trans was in neutral. I noticed at first that it wasnt so i got it there then put the cover on. Whats strange is that i ran it through all the gears before putting it back in and it was fine. Its like something is wedged between two gears but nothing fell in there. Kinda weird.

i've been talking to matt quite a bit lately, i was talking about swapping my 5 spd. for an auto. I know its odd sounding, but yesterday i started my truck and it did the same thing, so i thought id see if i could rock the truck by pushing it in neutral and i rolled it almost out of the shop. I started it again to see if it made a difference and everything is fine believe it or not. I drove it for about 8 miles and all is good so far. Dont know what it was but so far so good.
