Hi folks, well, it's been quite a while since I've posted, or read the forums, just too busy with work and the ranch. Anyway, forgive me if this has been answered before.

My 5-speed is getting stuck in 5th. I have read a few posts on this, one suggested letting the clutch out and pressing a second time, that sometimes works, as does getting on and off the accellerator a couple of times. Also, sometimes, if I push the shift lever far ro the right and pull back it'll come out of 5th.

It seems to get worse when towing, and worse when it gets hot. So far, it's never gotten completely stuck, but it takes long enough to get it out that sometimes, on hills, I have to shift to 3rd or even 2nd due to slowing too much.

Anyway, does anyone know what's going on here? Is this some sign of impending doom? Is there something I can/should do to fix this?

This is on a '98 3500 12 Valve built Nov. '97. I've got 120K miles. The transmission oil is original:eek: I just haven't had time or facilities to change it.

Thanks,

-cj

I've had mine stick in 5th gear before. The problem was in the 5th gear syncro assembly. I took the tail section off and disassembled the assembly, put it back together and it hasn't been a problem since.

If your not comfortable taking parts of your transmission out, it might be something you will want to let a shop take care of.

Mine did get permanently stuck in 5th and I ended up having to call Blumenthal and order a new trans:{ It would get stuck every once in a while and as the miles added up it kept getting worse.

As far as I know, they have the best price on the correct oil for your trans. Don,t experiment with other than the correct oil or you'll get to know the folks at Standard Trans a lot better. BTW, ask them about their warranty coverage for their rebuilt units and what their position is if you use other the the Casrol oil.
