Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 5 speed trans trouble

I have a friend that has a 1999 dodge with a manual 5 speed trans. The problem is that the stick slips out of 2nd gear. You can apply a small amount of pressure on the stick and it will stay in gear. It only jumps out of gear when you let off of the accelerator. Does anyone have a fix.

Probably a problem with the 2nd gear spring detents (I don't know the technical name) inside the trans. Likely have to take it apart to fix it.

This might be a far off wild guess



I had an old Ford pickup that started doing the same thing. I found the bolts that hold the transmission to the bell housing were loose allowing a slight misalignment. Tightened them up and the problem went away.
