5-speed vs 6-speed clutch

I may be replacing my clutch soon, much to my disgust. But, I might replace the 5-speed with a 6-speed trans one day.
Are the 5-speed and 6-speed clutches the same, or will I have to replace it again if I find a 6-speed unit?
Any one dealt with this?

1997 4x4 CC 5spd, CPL1553 pump, Horton fan, Sport headlamps, Optima RedTops, 98 shift levers and console, RS5000 shocks, Toyo 235/85 tires... but going back to Michelin.

You can use the flywheel and pressure plate with either. The late 6 speeds went to a different spline so the disk is different. The late 6 speeds from the factory have a different flywheel (ETH engine) but you don't need to make that change. With the Std. Trans & Gear mainshaft fix, the 5 speed is now very good and aftermarket parts are available at reasonable cost. Not so the 6 speed. I think I'd keep the 5 speed. The 5 speed flywheel is also better for bombing because the aftermarket clutches are for the bolt pattern it uses.

2 cent's Forget it!!
As i had a chance to get a six speed to see if i could break it. i opted out.
First- shifter lever is different--Not a problem. $.
Second- different brackets-$
Third- drive shaft lenght-$
Fourth-modify the hole in the floor pan and
different shifter boot. $
Fifth - REPLACEMENT or the rear axle
(your speedo sensor is in transmission-
SIX speed,s gets the signal thru the rear axle anti-loc brake pick-up sensor!!! fed thru sys then to the speedo!$$$$ HERE IS WHERE i opted out.
Six-- replace the main wire harness.
Cost to me Drive shaft mod- rear end -and time. The harnass replacement time was over the top.
Other than that you have to remove the OE bell housing and clutch assy as the SIX speed the bellhousing is part of the transmission assy. Think Rockwell big rig transmission design/tare down. DO YOU THINK????
