hey fellas, while waiting for the compounds to come in I've been wondering about upgrading my nozzles. I'm not sure if i should go with 50 or 90hp nozzles. What im trying to do is make as much mechanical power as i can so i wont be relying on the quad adrenaline as much. I'm just not very comfortable with added rail pressure and timing. Would the 90's be too much? Btw, i occasionally tow a 29' 5er at around 11k fully loaded. Thanks again to all the TDR members who have guided me on my quest for the ultimate all around truck!!

even with out the twins you would be fine. . I've been running 120 nozzles foe about 85k on the stock turbo and run play with different settings on my smarty. I was told that in general the 120s were the largest i should go in combination with a programmer and not out run the CP3. would deffinalty looking in to a FASS or Airdog to help out in filtering and supply.

Stock CP3? What's your rail psi like with 120's?

I would say 50's are your best bet for heavy towing and the 4K twins. You can make some decent power on 50's with a CR. 50's generally seem to give a slight bump in mileage and 90's tend to give a slight decrease.

Don't be afraid of a little timing. The stock timing profile is retarded for emissions and noise and is not the ideal timing. Consider that SW1 on both the Smarty and Smarty Jr is timing only and I got ft/lbs 70 more tq between 1800 and 2600 rpms. Thats free power, which also improves fuel economy.

If I remember, mine took about 6-8 weeks to get. Since you have a very similar setup to mine, I'll tell what I've learned. You won't need different nozzles/injectors. Mine are stock, and although I have yet to find a dyno to strap down to, I can tell you that my 0-60 times are in the 4. 4-4. 5 range! That was with stock CP3, stock injectors, stock everything fuel-wise. With Smarty on SW7 or 9, I run around 44 psi. If I went to 50 hp nozzles, my understanding is that I would then potentially be running higher boost, high enough to put my head gasket in jeopardy.
So, you have to think... you'll be adding around 100-200 hp (depending on how your quadzilla compares to Smarty). Do you want to spend more money on ARP studs, injectors, and labor for the extra 50ish hp?
My suggestion would be to install the twins when they come, dial in your programmer, watch your boost (mechanically) and THEN decide if you need the extra power.
That being said, if my injectors went bad, I would upgrade at that time. If my head gasket blew, I would also upgrade (studs and injectors) at the same time.

I see in your sig that you have an ATS 3000. I assume you'll be using your stock turbo with their 4000, not the 3000 and 4000?

I would stay with factory sprayers also,I ran the BD twins on them for 3 Months Moved to the 90s and just wasted fuel at long periods of Idle interment ramp to 1K (30 Minutes+) Factory sprayers will support 500hp with Twins. Factory Unmolested tips are by far the most efficient and safer. I like My single Silver better then any twins I own and still Have (Operator friendly every day). Removing Injectors unnecessarily is wasted time and Money.

120hp tips with the stock turbo? Wow I would think that would be way too much fueling for the stock single. I am running DDP 90's and a BD Special, and feel that the 90's would be better suited with twins. Gross combined just over 21k lbs over the Grapevine she ran at 1200-1300 pushing around 35lbs-40lbs of boost stock programing. Unloaded low boost she runs warm. The truck is really fast when you open up. I can hit 1400-1500 if I try and 50lbs. I would actually like to go down to DDP 50's. I just dont open her up that much. If I could run twins I think it would be much better in the low load/boost temps. To give you an idea the truck was on the dyno at "Left Coast Diesel" at 411hp on the STOCK programing

Thanks for all your replies! Yes I will be using the factory turbo with the 4K. I sod my 3K to my dad for his 04. I believe I'll stay with the factory nozzels until they strt showing signs of failure.

Go with the 50's. I smoke like a feight train with my twins and Flux 2, 100hp injectors. Also the fuel rail drains often with the stock cp3. My next step is a new cam. One other thing is I have have to be over 2100 RPM when towing on hills because it overfuels and the egt's go through the roof even with tow twins.

I put a set of 90s in my truck, with the smarty on 9 the rail pressure drops, then builds up and it runs like a raped ape for the 2 seconds i have left in the gear. Have a bag of parts in the mail, hoping that will keep the rail pressure up...

Silver Single Turbo

TCDiesel, if you don't mind my asking what turbo are you running and why do you like it more than twins. What do you do with it and how does it perform for you? I was kind of leaning toward them (twins) in the near future but I could be talked out of it and would be simpler and less $$ for a good single. I seldom tow and usually 6 to 8000# if I do. T. I. A. for any input TC. I checked out your website and didn't see any turbos or did I miss them?

My 03 has 62/65/12. . I have 4:10 gears Form the 1st of April until Nov 15 every year I tow 20k plus 2-4 times weekly,at times we back over curbs down alleys Etc, the twins work OK, the problems that the twins made when backing in tight spots it surge badly, Also the truck may run for 1-2 hrs on our lifts, the twins drank fuel at 1/3 fuel per hour, Also the city mileage was down 20%, twins have they advantage they just did not fit the application I wanted on the 03 with the PRXB, We travel to the rockies 3 times yearly in the winter month and the silver is more then capable of handling the Mountains with the enclosed Snowmobile trail in tow, Our 08 LMM and 06 Cummins have twins

Why would twins drink more fuel while idling? Does your setup make slight pressure at idle, which would call for more fuel?

Yep. . It ramps Up and down. . so the engine must push through the extra turbo. . CR more air more fuel ,CR live die and drink fuel on demand. It take energy to spin the extra blower thats just NOT necssary. . I can pull 20k form stop light to stop light and keep up with traffic and NEVER see 1250*EGTS,My trans temps climbs quickly even with the fan override on, thats the only factor to pull My foot out of it. All this on a single silver 62.
