Yep, the blacksheepdiesel rolled over the half million mile mark yesterday afternoon. Immediately got started on the second half mil.

For the record, I did not put all the miles on the truck. I purchased it in June 2004 with 239,000 on the clock. The guy I bought it from had been delivering campers and I did the same until this March.

As far as I know the previous owner changed out the LP once and then I added the AirDog. The VP was replaced at 400,000 miles and appeared to be the original.

The previous owner trashed the NV5600 at 230,000 and had a reman with a stronger than stock clutch installed. Don't know how he killed the transmission.

Most people are shocked when they comment on my truck & then I mention it has that many miles on it!!!

Trent

Sweet! How many more ya' gunna roll before you decide to do the engine rebuild? Isn't the first scheduled rebuild for the ISB somewhere aroudn the 500k mark? Sure makes the 170k on mine look small.

100k mile plates - where'd you put em all???

Your front bumper must look very busy with all those 100,000k mile plates on it . Do they scrape the road when you hit bumps :-laf or do you have them side by side under the bumper to scoop up more air for cooling ;) .

500k that's great news - congratulations and keep up the great maintaining.

congrats!!!!! thats awesome!!!

any way we can get a pic of the truck and odometer? Ive got to rub this in the face of a few guys at work (duramax owners)

Ian

C'mon now guy - fess up!

To get THAT many relatively trouble-free miles, you SURELY musta been using some great and expensive synthetic lubes and filters, plus extended drain intervals, right? :-laf :-laf

NO WAY could you do that with ORDINARY lubes and change intervals... :D

(Yeah, just being a trouble-making wiseguy!) :-laf

Guys,

Joe Mc, now that you mention it, I do need to order those TDR badges, never have done that yet.

IC SMOKE, I do have pix but the file is too big to upload, will work on that...

Gary, actually *I* DO run synthetics in my transmission and rear end, Royal Purple to be EXACT! You must be psycho, er, I mean psychic!!! I do have a MagHytec cover on the diff. And my drain intervals, AGAIN, you are CORRECT!!! The engine oil (Rotella) is changed every 10,000 with Fleetguard's best filter.

Cummin' on,

Trent

what's your oil consumpsion BlackSheep? and how would you rate your motor on power compared to new. you never answered the guys questions. :D

Thanks Trent - and of course, the engine lube maintenance is what's of primary interest here - and again, we see that the use of common dino oils - even with (GASP!) extended drains, are fully capable of taking our Cummins hardware for the long haul!

Congratulations - I can only hope my rig does nearly as well.

Regards

"Psycho" Gary

(Hafta add that to my sig... ) :-laf

Gosh I sure have a long way to go. My '01 only has 90,000 on it. O do like hearing everyone getting long miles out of these motors. I read a thread awhile back with someone having 1 million + plus miles on it. Now that is AMAZING!! -Jason

Guys,

champspa, I add two quarts at the 5,000 mile mark. Unfortunately I believe the oil pan is cracked at the drain plug and it leaks rather badly - not good for someone who does sales/service and parks in private driveways every day. There is no smoke from the tailpipe (except when I want there to be, thanks to Smarty!) so I believe most of the oil loss is leakage.

Power compared to new? Not a fair question. She was bone stock when I bought her, not even any gauges! I added RV275's shortly after acquiring blacksheep (gauges were first) and that helped out pulling campers up mountains. The AFE didn't seem to help power wise but definitely cooled egt's. Then the Catcher came along and the smile factor was huge! Never found an incline that would slow me down, even pulling a 40' 5th wheel toy hauler. The Smarty is even better. My sister and her husband just used blacksheep to pull their 32' 5th wheel to Current River in MO, and he couldn't believe the power; of course, he has a '99 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 gasser auto so he has nothing to really compare to.

If I turn Smarty off there is no difference in power from when I first installed the sticks.

Cummins 724, sled pulled? Nope, not on your life. This baby is for longevity, I plan on at least 1 million! It has pulled campers for almost half of its miles though so it hasn't had the easiest life. It has been bombed since 250,000 mi with sticks, then Catcher/Smarty since 350,000.

Cummin' on,

Trent

Congrates,i have a ways to catch up----17600 miles :-laf on mine as of today,I'll put a few more on her this weekend towing the TT to its new home at the lake(permanent RV property/lot),then it will be mostly highway weekend miles to and from the lake each weekend. I just love these 6speeds on the highway, put it in 6th and leave it there all day except for the most part unforseen slow traffic/road conditions ect. GOODLUCK on the next 500,000. Later DW :D :D :D

thanks BlackSheep for the information , I'm at 220k now and slowly headed for that 500k and I don't expect any difference in the way it runs either , congratulations on the 500k and many more :D :D

Way to go black sheep I am working on my 1/2 mil, but lately I have benn doing more flying for work than driving. I now have 479,000 on mune and have had more problems with the NV4500 than I have with the Cummins.

Gary-K7DL I'll stir the pot for you even more... use Rotella 15W40 WIX oil filter (OH MY GAWD it will breakdown in 10 miles with one of those) a K&N air Filter (GASP) and it is till running strong... recently did an 850 mile trip in 2 days still got over 18 MPG.

Im so glad that i brought a Dodge with the Cummins in it..... :D . I just turn 160,000 miles on it,and love it since i brought it.

Good luck with the next 500. 000 miles on it. You are the leader in what these engines can do..... Thanks Rick M.

When I worked at a truck shop In Bismarck There is a tire Co with a first gen 2wd with 650k on the ticker and had nothing but a couple clutches done to it.

I know of 2 other 2nd gens with 450k on them. nothing but transmission and clutch work to them also. and all with dino oils.

Its good to hear about your success. :)
