I thought I would show you guys a picture of why I love my 1st gen. DODGE .

The load is two and about 1/3 pallets, the sod co. freaked when I told them to load it all in one truck. They said it was the most sod they have ever loaded in one pick-up truck. They cut and weighed another pallet and each pallet weighed 2100 pounds, you can do the math:D .

Amazing amount of weight, and relatively little sag from the photo. My best so far is 19 9' RR ties, the real ones. No weight on them, but it takes two to pick em up. Somewhere around 3500 lbs. Quite driveable even with that weight.

Were you able to drive OK with 5000lbs in the back? Stopping? Gulp.

Excellent!

The overloads barely touched, only dropped about 2-3 inches. You could see the bed moving around on the frame. The truck was still bone stock at the time and it pulled like there was very little weight in it. When I went to stop however:eek: . I was standing on the brakes and grabbing gears, I could have really used an exhaust brake. Aside from that it drive pretty well, it did rock back and forth some though.

i have had 2 pallets (75 bundles) of shingles, 10 sheets of 1/2 '' osb and 6 rollls of 30 lb roofing felt in my truck(my guess@ 4000 lbs0, had to make a second trip because i could not fit anymore(forgot to bring tie downs)and had a tool box in the bed she road smooth and still had plenty of power, the last 6 miles to my house is @800ft alt. to3500ft alt. coolant temperature was fine(no more than 2/3 ) and at that time she (91 1/2 reg cab 2wd drw) was all stock except the timing was set @1. 45mm... ..... gotta love those rams

Gee, I remember a couple of loads of limestone flagstone I hauled home for the wife. Tried to keep the pile not more than bed high...
