Something funny is going on here. Just got off the phone after talking to Cummins Cumberland in Louisville, the night shift boys, the ones who have always been so knowledgeable and a better help than the day shift.

Anyway, the lift pump number is 3990105, same as the one I have now. The technician who answered the phone said that all Cummins parts numbers start with a 3 or a 4. (my best friend at work is a certified Cummins mechanic, and he confirmed this, though it's been 2 years since he worked on them)

5080885AA didn't ring a bell with the Cummins guy in Louisville... maybe it's a model number?

So anybody got the straight scoop on this? Did they drop the ball on this?

Steve, does Cummins change there part number for each rev of pump that comes out? Sure would hate to buy an old version.

Yes they do, and if you try to order an older one it will show on there computer as being superceded and then list the new one. When I bought my last one they had to go through about 12-13 different numbers that had been superceded before they got to 3990105.

Just a Thought....

Wouldn't it be nice if someone had access to a parts catalog (database file) that cross-referenced DC to Cummins part numbers?

I don't have an actual cross reference book, but I do have a Cummins parts book for "Chrysler 2001 Pickup" Cummins part #4056479. They print them for most years. You can buy the books online from the Cummins Powerstore. If you buy the books make sure you get the books for the Dodge trucks. A lot of the parts are different from the medium duty ISB or 6BTA5. 9 engines.
