5100 series bilstein shocks installed today

I had the bilstein shocks installed today. First impressions, a little more stiffer ride,but not to harsh,truck seems to handle better. I was looking at the orginal shocks that came off my 2004,made in brazil. coobie Oo.

I have been looking at the Bilsteins and Ranchos trying to decide between the two, I'm leaning more toward the Bilsteins. Do they offer a Bilstein OEM shock (yellow and blue) for the 03 3500, all I've seen was up to 2002 year model oem. The 5100 are the (silver and black) shock, I believe can be used even if you stay stock height. What's the difference between the oem and 5100's. I don't do that much off roading.

Give me a chance... . I got my PACE from the group buy. The shocks look great, but I won't have them on for a week or so..... (Don't ask WHY) Soon as I do I'll give them a work out and post. The shocks look better and I think they will perform better then the stock ones.

I went with the 5100's along with the Kelderman kit and the Bilsteins ride excellent compared to the stock shocks. I can't stand Rancho's so I decided to try something different and it payed off big time.

The 5100 Bilsteins ARE the yellow and blue ones.



I have a set sitting in my garage right now.



The were the only Bilsteins which would fit my stock 2003 HO Shortbed.

The 5100 series that were installed on my truck are not the yellow and blue,they are the zinc plated ones. Here are the part #,s that I have, Front shocks BE5-668-H5,Rears BE5-6647-H5. From my understanding These shocks only fit the 4X4 models or trucks with a 2 inch lift,2002-2004 model years. Hope this helps. coobie

I have a pair of 5100's and they are a definate improvement over stock. The truck has much better control over bigger bumps. Off Road Warehouse is the cheapest place I've found, http://www.offroadwarehouse.com. On the main page go to the TDR section and they have all the shocks listed there. I payed $274 shipped for my 4 5100's.

Tony,I also remained stock height on my 2004 with the 5100 series shocks. I bought my bilsteins from shox.com they state 2002 to 2004 for the 5100 series shocks. If you need to, send me a private message,I will help any way I can,coobie

I have a 2 wheel drive with 50k miles on the original shocks (and tires) I am ready to make a change. One consideration is the bumpy concrete freeways we have here in So. Calif. , worried that a stiff shock may make the ride worse... any suggestions?

Shocks dampen motion, they do not carry the weight of the truck. A shock with more dampening should give you far more control but you should not notice a significant increase in ride harshness.



A monotube shock like a Bilstein is much better suited to variances in road condition than any twin tube low pressure shock. I challenge anyone to install a set and wait two weeks, then post. Initially, you'll think the ride is slighly stiffer because your old shocks were so worn out. Once you ride in it for a few weeks and you feel less fatigued on long drives you'll realize the ride has drastically improved.



From now on I use monotube shocks on anything and I'm in the process of switching all my trucks. KYB makes good ones as well as a number of the high end manufacturers (SAW, King, Bilstein, etc. ).
