Shift Kit for the A-518. Does anyone have a shift kit for our transmissions if so which one do you have and how well does it work. YES I KNOW BILL K. IS THE MAN! :--)

shift kit

I had a Superior shift kit installed with a DTT/TC when I replaced the transmission. Needs to be adjusted a bit but it works ok. Seems to shift a little firmer than the old one but it had 206k on it. The TC seems to make the most difference as power is improved an I can hear the turbo now as before I couldn't.

Transgo makes a nice shift kit and you can order it with a video to help with the installation, i tried without the video, and not being an auto guru i had a heck of a time tring to figure what to drill and what to grind, the photos in the instructions did not match my trans exactly, but when i got it back together it worked quit well i could see a differance on the load on the engine, a little quiker boost and more egt while excelerating... ... ..... Rick

When the transmission was rebuilt for the third time, I had the shop put in a kit but I don't know what brand it was. transmission shifted a little better but still is real mushy on the shifts. I talked to the transmission rebuilder at the shop about this and he said he could increase the pressure a little and make it shift harder but most people like the "soft" shift. I need to get the transmission serviced and will have them do this adjustment when I do.

Also had them put in a few extra disc packs to try and firm up as well.

This stuff is way out of my league, I am learning as I go.

Get the good converter, don't use a stock one. I didn't know about this and wish someone had told me. Contact "Rodney" as he has put one in his truck.

NAPA has one available , it should be @ $50. 00, can't remember the part # now if you can't locate the part # let me know. i will be out of town for a couple of days and then check back here.

Putting a shift kit in a torque-flite is like wetting your pants in a dark suit--it gives you a warm feeling but nobody notices.

All you need to do is remove the accumulator valve spring and set your line pressure to 1. 125" and you will have great shifts without hurting the trans or struts. If you want more that takes a complete tear down and involves too much for me to list here but is well worth it.

Paccool, just where did they install these extra 'disc packs'? not in your trans.

And yes, everybody should get a good t/c
