518 transmission advise needed.

One of our other trucks is a old beater Dodge farm truck, 1989 D250 with a 318 and 518 transmission. The transmission has about 50k since a major rebuild and for the past few thousand miles would hunt between overdrive and direct when running between 40 and 50mph. I installed a new tps with no improvement.



Now it doesn't want to shift into od at all.



So, is there a simple fix, prehaps a fluid change (not really due but ?), adjust something, I'm open for ideas. Just can't afford to spend much money on a rig that's one step removed from junk status.

First thing I would do is check the Od solenoid and make sure it is functioning. Could be something as simple as a bad solenoid.

TnL, thanks for the idea, it was electrical. I unplugged and reconnected the wiring to the transmission and all is good now.
