This block cracked in two places welded it once going try the original lock stitch method this time the second crack has been that way for over a year so I don’t think it will crack again
 
Just got home from a 200 mile parts trip and to get some ratchets warrantied at harbor freight and worked on one of my tractors ran the truck the whole time except for about an hour while I serviced the tractor I put dye in the system and still no sign of dye anywhere with the uv light . Going to put it under load maybe a little later this week need to get another tractor hauled to another farm
 
Just got home from hauling a tractor and a grain drill on one load got it good and hot and worked it long and hard and so far no more cracks
 
I got a new shortblock at 18K or so. The dealer replaced it with another 53. I sold the truck with 50K on it. No idea what happened if anything after that.
 
They don’t seem to crack until around 200 250.000 miles if they are worked hard. There are 3 right In my area that are cracked with similar mileage . One Is cracked the whole length of the block
 
Did a little pricing on the lock and stitch kits today. They are over 1400$ for the lock and stitch kit and block reinforcement kit . I didn’t spend 300$ including everything so I feel pretty good about what I did . I’ve put a little over 3000 miles on the repair so far and no leaks .

If it’s worked hard or gets remotely hot while working it will crack between 150,00 and 200,000
