Hi everyone! just joined today after my buddy Mike (who owns Roys transmission in hamden Ct and is a member) highly recommended it. I did a search on 53 blocks and know all of the problems with cracking. I cant seem to find the numbers on my block. I understand its on the drivers side lower front. I just dont see anything. is it behind the wire harness by the vacuum pump? does anyone have a pic?

It is on the drivers side of the engine. Just above the oil pan, and about a 1/4 of the way back from the front of the block. Good Luck!

I see you have an auto, find where the aux air to oil trans cooler outlet line exits, and follow where it runs along the engine block on it's way back to the auto trans (should be right where the oil pan mates to the engine block)and look below the VP-44 pump (inj pump). Their big numbers at least 1" in size.

Hope this helps you out.

thanks macdaddy. I've been looking there but there is a harness there that doesnt want to move out of the way. I've tried feeling with my fingers and I have found a series of numbers and letters above that area. I cant read them clearly but they dont seem to be 53 or 55. Are the numbers mixed in with other numbers or are the by themselves? I have heard that some arent numbered at all and they are the strongest blocks.

Those "53, 55, 56" numbers will be alone on the block, they are pretty large too as stated above. They are not mixed in with a group of numbers.

I removed the harness clamp, moved the harness, and saw a 5 digit number there, no 53 in the numbers, which looked to be about 1/2 inch size. Does this mean anything?

Sorry I havn't got back untill now. Like Tcolesanti stated (the 53) is alone by itself you have me wondering what this wiring harness is though?. I don't think my 99 had it. All I remember is the feeling I had when I first saw it, (the 53) UGH!!! :(. Here is something to try if it is in fact a "53". I have heard that if you take a lubercant such as WD-40 and spray a large amount in the area where the crack could develop then rub your fingers on it and it feels pourous it may be more prone to cracking (thats the way mine was). And if it is real smooth you may luck out and never have a problem.

Good luck
