Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 53 Block

I have a '99 Dodge PU with a 53 block that cracked. I am interested in a 2001 block (I don't have block # yet) but wanted to know if anyone knows what other years have 53 blocks that I should avoid. I'd heard that 53 blocks were in '98 & '99 but want to be sure there aren't other years I need to worry about.

There is tons of info. on this if you do a search. Those blocks were in just about every 24 valve "year" including 2001. Not sure about 2002? Even in some of the later 12 valves.

It seems that most of the HO's and the later years had less of them. It is easy to identify. Get a flash light, get up underneath the truck and shine the light on the side of the block on the front drivers side just above the oil pan flange and below the power steering pump. There will be a series of #'s cast into the block.

You need to LOOK at the block. Just hoping that a later year will not have it is not enough. I have a friend that has a 2001 (SO) here. His has the 53 in it.

Good luck man I just went thru the same thing and found a reman on ebay and replaced the whole deal I looked At getting a new bock from cummins and it was going to be around 1500. 00 but ot a complete reman for 3700 the same reman is onther now for 8000. 00 I hope I got a good deal time will tell so far so good with only 1200 miles on it. I also made sure it was not a 53 block.

I seen them in some 01. . But not in any 2002s
