Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) 53 block?

I just found out that i have the dreaded 53 block. should i keep the truck or sell it? if i keep it can i do something to keep it from cracking?

First things first, don't panic. I mulled this over a while myself. I just went over a 100k mi a few months ago on mine. Everything else has seemed to have given me problems but the block. My best advice is to just read the wealth of information here on the topic and learn what you can.

I have a 53 block,my truck now has over 500,000 kms (300,000k) no problems so far. I think a lot of the problems come from moding to increase HP . Also heavy towing especially in the mountains ,lots of heat created. My truck is stock except for a four inch exhaust. Am still running original vp-44 and injectors.
