I placed and order for a new 5500 several weeks ago... .

AUG 1 07 UPDATE

Dealer called today and said it was going to be shipped today or tomorrow...

Don't have a clue how long it will take to get it here... I'm guessing at least 4 to 5 weeks...

AUG 17 07 UPDATE

A check today found the truck still sitting in a lot in Mexico waiting for space on a rail car..... This is a CC with a 204" WB so it won't fit were a standard truck will go... . I'm surprised that a sold order is sitting now for almost 3 weeks... . Thought I'd share that with the group... I still haven't got the bed started so maybe its a good thing it's still sitting...

AUG 24, 07 UPDATE

A check today found the truck still sitting in a lot in Mexico waiting for space on a rail car..... dealer shared with me today that they have 10 or 12 of these on order and they are all built, but none have shipped..... they have no idea why

Sept 7, 07 UPDATE

As of today my truck is not one of the trucks talked about that has been damaged in transit... . It is however on HOLD and is still sitting in MEXICO on a storage lot... The dealer has no idea why they built it on the 1st of Aug and its still sitting there unless there is a mechanical or safety screw up that can't be taken care of by the dealer.....

Sept 18th, 07 UPDATE

Email from dealer today..... he's holding his breath, truck was loaded on the rail head today..... should be another 20 days or so...

My '07 was built 10-29-06,shipped 11-16-06, arrived Dave Smith Motors 11-28-06. Less than thirty days, start to finish. That's gotta be a record. Unfortunately, they were so efficient,my Farm Bureau membership wasn't in effect long enough to be applied. DSM stepped up to the plate and lowered the price another $313. 00 to ease my suffering.

Great folks at Dave Smiths, that is where I got my 05:) If Dodge would make Crew cab a with an 8 foot bed, I would make another trip to Kellogg.

Jim,

Did you spec it with the G56 or Aisin? What differential gears 4. 30 or 4. 88? What do you estimate for gross combined weight when you put it to work?

Please provide us interested readers with periodic test reports like EB has done on the first 3500 Cab and Chassis that hit the streets.

That's great. Post lots of pictures when you get it.

Dishman

Dishman here in Spokane... . Rob Crosswhite has been working with me for 3 or 4 years now. .

A few years back, Richard Bowman spec'd out a vehicle for me at a super price. My finances fell through at the time and I was unable to order it. Mr. Bowman graciously thanked me and expressed gratitude for my interest. Great company and staff. Good luck on your truck.

We've been 6 speed fans for ages but I'm taking a chance with the auto... .

4. 30 gears as this will be over the road and replace a 2000 F550 with 500K miles...

We'll run it right to the brim at 19,500 most of the time... . Had a 08 F650 with a Cat not been another $22K I would have ordered it.....

We're going to move an existing box from the old truck to the new truck... with some changes... .

I think I've answered all the questions. .

What will be your RPMs at 65 with the auto and 4. 30?

I see that the 5500 can also come with the 6-speed manual and 4. 88s. Would something like that be strictly a local city truck, or local construction truck? Or is the G56 manual setup differently so as not to turn something like3000 rpms at 50 MPH?

As of today ( Friday 24th) don't know where the truck is... .

When we bought the F550 we drove it home and pulled the rear end apart and changed the gears to a lower number..... it was way too high... . we still have the OE set sitting in a box at the shop... . Maybe I should sell it on Ebay??

The interesting thing is that on the Ford there is a toothed gear on the ring gear for the ABS and speedometer... the new ring gear needed to be machined for this gear to be pressed on..... Everyone said it wouldn't work, but logic told us there was no reason it wouldn't... . and of course it has worked fine for 500K...

This truck will get a custom box that I've got to start building soon, alas were having more problems with the F550 so the sooner the better... .

BTW, I'd take the Ford body and chassis, with a Cummins power plant and the interior of a Chevrolet if someone would make it... . The F550 body and chassis have done well... . its the engine and its electronics that have been the problem and the costs.....
