My 5500 with a CM bed with LED lights has developed an electrical problem. When I want to turn right, I put on my blinker, however, as soon as I put my foot on the brake to begin the turn, the blinker goes into fast blink mode. It only does it on a right turn. I have checked the lights and all are operational.

Any ideas?

the load LEDs provide is not as high as the conventional lights. resistors are used to provide more load so the flasher will discharge at the normal rate. What may be happening is that the two loads (resistors) are in parallel when both brake and signal lights are on, or there is a missing load on the brake light so when they are both on the flasher is seeing less load.

My B&W Elite bed had turn signal problems sort of like you describe, B&W reported back that the Dodges seem to have a glitch with it. I found what the problem was, and to B&W's credit they reimbursed me for my material costs. It started right after installation and gradually got worse. It was a simple fix, when B&W wired up the bed, they used the frame for ground instead of the ground wire from the harness. I guess that was the old way until now with the new electronics. Problem went away as soon as I connected the ground they had at the frame to the ground from the harness. Later on, the wiring failed and I had to replace the entire wiring harness, and at that time I connected all of the grounds to the frame as well as the harness. I guess they used the cheap 4 conductor trailer wiring that you buy in part houses. I replaced the wiring with high quality wire and they reimbursed me latter.

Hmmmm... ... ... ... all good thoughts. I cannot go to the dealer that installed the bed since it was installed in North Carolina 3. 5 years ago. I've had this truck for the past 1. 5 years. No lighting problems until just in the past couple of weeks. I'm thinking that one of the wires has chaffed and is now shorting or something. I'll keep at it.

Joe, did you get this fixed? I am currently having problems with my 06 3500 DRW 4x4 right trailer turn signal not working. The p/u turn signal works but none of the three trailer connector RH signal/brake wiring works. The 30A fuse that supplies aux power to the trailer was blown. This pin is next to the RH signal on the 7-way trailer connector.

Took it to the local RV shop and they said I need to take it to a dealer - thought I'd do a little investigating first.

Thanks,

Grandpa

The OP's problem is not related to yours. His truck is a C&C with an aftermarket bed and wiring.

The first step to identify your problem is to use a multimeter set on voltage to probe each pin in the seven pin female trailer connector at the rear of your truck to identify the purpose of each pin. When you know which pin is for the trailer's right side stop and turn signal light it should flash when the turn signal is activated. If it flashes normally, the problem is in the trailer umbilical cord or the trailer. If the pin shows no voltage pulses the problem is in the truck's plug, wiring behind the plug, or in the expensive module under the hood and will require a dealer visit and your credit card.
