Why spend 850 installed when you can do Spooled ups tank vent mod and get 41 gallons in your stocker??? Not a flame, just a question that I asked myself before installing his tank vent kit and am very happy with the results... Dave saved me from spending 815 dollars just for 15 more gallons of fuel... Holding 41 gallons is more fuel and distance than my bladder can handle lol

Cheers

Just about everything we do to our CTD's is "not necessary. " We do it cause we want to, or we perceive a benefit.

That being said... The reasons I put a 57gal replacement tank in are these.

1. I had an inbed aux tank in my 2001. Don't want to take up the bed space for another aux tank.

2. There are still some questions about moding your OEM tank to hold a few more gallons. Shouldn't be a problem, unless you fill it up and let it set out in the heat for a long period. They make the air space, in the OEM tank for a reason.

3. You're bladder has nothing to do with having extra fuel. By having 57gals in my tank, I can take most weekend trips without having to stop in unfamiliar stations, while towing my 5th wheel, and wonder if I can get it in and out of the station. I also buy most of my fuel from my local Flying J volume dealer. I don't worry about bad/water/contaminated diesel. I also don't pay the extra $$$ for diesel at destination locations.

Here is a copy of part of your sig: "SOLD! 2001 2500 QC SWB SLT +. 3. 54 LSD DD stage 2's,Power Edge Comp, DD HX 40/ 16 cm2 housing ,DTT 89 % torque converter, valve body and update kit, Mag Hytec double deep trans, front and rear covers, rancho rs 9000's. "

And your worrying about $900 for a replacement tank??? :D :D :D

Have fun... ;)

Well I did the tank mod, and wish I had done it when I bought the truck. I spend alot of time in the desert and 100+ temp is a regular. Never had a problem with the tank expanshion or leaks. I was able to turn my tank into a 45 gal by some other mods. I not sure $800 is worth the extra 10 gals. If your so worried about the extra gas. I would get two 5 gal gas cans and run them on the long trips. On long trips I always carrie an extra 5 gals of diesel.

Rjol, Pardon me. apparently I struck a nerve... I did say in my post that I questioned myself about spending the dollars for a new tank... You listed very valid reasons to get one. . Good on ya. .

And by copying my signature you should be able to tell that I do not worry about spending 800 bucks on my truck, quite the opposite, I spend it on what I think is the most bang for the buck. I do not feel that for me a 56 gallon aux tank meets that criteria. ;)

Cheers/Beers,

Didn't hit a nerve at all... Didn't you see the :D :D :D in my post??? Just wanted you to know why some of us waste $900 on a bigger tank... Oh yea... :D :D :D :D

The fuel tanks are made from a combination of 12 and 14-gauge aluminized steel for superior rust resistance and strength, and are powder coated black for a durable finish.

The above is quoted from their website.

Is the stock tank made from plastic or polyurethane or other? I'm pretty sure its made from something other then metal and will not rust, but may puncture easier.

I'm also thinking of larger diesel capacity but unsure how to go about it. In bed tank. Replace stock tank. Looks like I need to make a pro/con list.

The Titan SuperTank is made of the same material as the OEM (poly... ??). It comes with a metal shield, that covers the entire bottom of the tank... ;)

Steveinaz,

TDR had a good write up of a company that made these and installs them for the same price your looking at, its located here in Corona, California. Ill look at my issues and let you know which one it was. Great customer service, is what the write up was, they even indicated of a rock that was stuck on the poly tank and began rubbing its way into the tank. Ill follow the thread as Im looking for the same thing just for long camping trips, I hate filling up in unfamiliar territory.

I also believe it was a 60 gallon tank. anyhow Ill find out and get back.

Joe, how far below the frame does it hang down? I had an 01 here this past weekend with the TF tank, and it seemed to hang down below the frame at least 4 to 5 inches.

Everyone will have their reason for installing a larger tank, and I know people have been waiting.

$900 for an extra 14 gallons does seem pricey, but could be convenient. I had the 50 gallon i nthe bed tank, and it was great having the capacity, but don't miss it taking up 2 feet in the bed.

Maybe one day, we'll see. Tank mod for now.

short box solution

Anyone found a solution for the short box owners. What is this mod on the OEM tank? Will it work on the short box tank? Thanks for any help.

The Transfer Flow tank hangs down very little more than the stocker. Still well above the axle tube level. I like it for the extra 21 gallons with proper overflow/rollover protection, and extra impact protection. The plastic stocker can't be very strong if you hit a rock in the trail. The Transfer Flow uses two Ford-type rollover valves, one near the middle, one toward the rear. See TDR 48, p. 166.

Fred Swanson: The stock tank on a 2000-2001 hangs at least 3 inches below the frame. The frame runs along the entire side of the tank unlike the 3rd Gen frame which tapers upward toward the underside of the bed. The 3rd Gen tank is actually unprotected near the rear wheel well. According to TFI, their tank for the 2nd Gen's are 3" below the lowest part of the frame and by my measurements that is exactly how low the stock tank is.

steveinaz or anyone else who is watching this thread,

The Place is called Aero Tank located here in Corona, Ca. The write up was on TDR Issue 46 Page 141. There number is 951-737-7878, give them a hollar, they should be able to hook you up for the price your looking at.

They only make them for the LWB.
