J-MAC (aluminum) makes a good sturdy gate. I have loaded several engines on the t gate and it has not bent. They are available through Camping World but not usually stocked as they are not thier high profit tailgate. They stock the high profit items and order the low profit products.

Bob-

I have an extended pin on my 5er, so I can back up to it with the tailgate down. So far, I have just left the stock gate on. I looked at the prices of the gates from Camping World, etc. and have decided to build my own this winter. Figured this would be a good winter project.

We have a Mig welder in the shop now and are looking at a Tig. Building one out of aluminum is not out of the question. I'm a "fair" welder, but my partner in the shop is an ace with one. I am retired from a regular job and the shop is pretty much a hobby for me.

Don't know if you have access to welder or materials, but if you do you might consider building one?

I've wondered about having a custom body shop customize a dip in the stock tailgate. A good hitch outlet seems to have better prices than Camping World. I have an extended pin on mine to so the tailgate stays on.
