I would start by checking oil condition. If it is in the least bit burned you may be in deep dodo. Those were the symptioms mine had about 5000 miles before mainshaft bearing failure. Change oil, make sure you use the reccomended oil. If you have to replace the transmission make sure you get the latest version. It has all the good updates.

While on my snow bird return thru the Siskiyou's I had two occasions to downshift from 4th to 3rd where the d@*& thing did not want to shift. It would go into nuetural but not back into 3rd (very stiff feeling). I am at 52,000 and am overdue for trans change but ???? (have a Honda w/280,000 & trans never changed) After pulling into a rest area and 20 min. of cooling all was OK and back to normal. Gross combined weight with 5th wheel is 22,000. Mild BOMB w/TST 230 plate.

Is this transmission or clutch ?? or ??

Thanks for your help.

ROBERT - I see you too have the US Gear OD unit, and I'm trying to determine whether it's typical to hear a bit of gear/bearing growl with them once they start getting some miles on them. Mine has about 100,000 miles on it, and is displaying a small but discernable noise at around 50 mph whem lightly loaded - noise falls off when coasting and when heavier load is present. Makes no difference whether it's in hi or low range, pitch and noise level remain the same. I drained the oil in mine, and switched from straight 90 wt over to 80/140 multigrade mixed with about 15% STP, and noise is decreased quite noticeably...

Any comment?

Anyone?
