This is my first post and like everybody else am overly impressed with this site. Now, I have a '95 with the 5sp. I have recently installed some gauges and decided to put a transmission temp gauge as well even though it seems that it isn't all that necessary. The question is where can I put the sender? The gauge is installed and wired, I just don't have the sender hooked anywhere. Next question: I am going to eventually install a tst torque plate and some other things. In the meantime will it benefit me to move the stock plate forward? That's all for now.

Thanks.

Thomas :)

Thomas,

First let me tell you how nice it is to not copy your name and paste it, I can actually spell it.

It seems to me the pto plates which are located on either side of trans are good for this. I dont believe the threaded holes for the bolts go all the way thru. But you can drill thru the plate (after you take it off, plan on changing fluid) or maybe by now geno's has pto/filter cover with pre drilled hole.

I don't recall reading of any other place it can be put but you can do a search on subject if you wish.

Looking at manual the bottom plate bolt ( in the middle) is used for draining trans fluid. Apparently it goes all the way thru and since there are two plates and they should be identical ( drain bolt on each side). One drain bolt hole should be able to house sensor.

I haven't looked but there mite be two fill holes also but I wouldn't count on it.

I just replaced the stock fill plug with bushings down to my temp sensor plug. Don't see much activety until the truck is pulling hard or running pretty high rpm's on a warm day. I figure when the truck is working, the hot oil is splashing around adequatly to monitor it that way.

I have done the same as QRTRHRS, mostly you need to know if the temp is running hotter than usual. It doesnt really matter if its running 160 or 170 deg, what matters is if it usually runs 170 and starts running 225 ya better do something

Do you tow?

If you pull a heavy trailer you might consider the Fast coolers. They mount where the pto plates are and one is predrilled for a temp probe.

I bought an extra pto cover from the stealer, can't remeber what I paid, wasn't much though and then I welded a bung on the inside portion, then drilled and tapped it for the sender. I didn't feel the wall thickness of the pto cover was thick enogh.
