I am trying to find out if any other 4x4 owners with a fith wheel camper had to flip the axles on the trailer to gain enough clearence above the top of the bed,I hate the look of my holiday rambler with them under the springs just thought someone here could shed some light on the subject surley I'm not the only one preplexed by this.

My last 5er was a 1997 Alpenlite 29', and my present 5er is a 2000 Cardinal 32' with 3 tip outs. Both trailers came factory set below the axles and I have at least 5" of clearance to the bed rails. If I remember I will double check this tonight on my Cardinal and let you know for sure if it is set below the axle.
I know I had to lower the king pin on the trailer to raise the front so it would ride level.
See ya later, wakely

ramman, I had my axles on my "87" Terry Resort 5ver flipped to gain clearance between bed and trailer. I didn't like the way it looked either, but after pulling it this past summer I guess I got used to it...

I had to have my axles flipped on my 27ft Sprinter w/ slide too. The kingpin is set so the trailer sits approx 5" from the truck bed and as level as can be on the truck. I don't particularly like the fact that the CG is higher and that gusts of cross wind can grab me easier. I guess it's a little better than the trailer hitting the truck though.

I had a 36ft Golden Falcon... I had blocks welded up for the axles to weld on to. I had 8 inches of clearance on my 3500 4x4 with 235 tires on. As a trailer builder we are required to have a min of 6 inches between the trailer and bed rails when a trailer leaves the yard.

On my previous RAM (1995) I replaced the rear spacer blocks with the 1. 5 inch shorter block that was used on the 3/4 ton, 360 V8 RAMS. I don't know what size blocks Dodge is using on the 99's but in 95, the blocks were 4. 5 inches for the V10 and Diesel, 3 inches for the 360 engine. The installation is pretty straight forward, only the locator pin hole was different. It leveled the truck out very nicely.

I have a 1997 27 foot Dutchman 5th wheel with a slide, and the axels are on the bottom of the springs. #ad
I have about 5-6 inches between trailer and truck. I rides almost level. About 1 inch or so high in the front.

Thanks to all for your replies on this subject for the record I bought a Holiday Rambler 29' had it delivered home then I flipped the axles and converted the fifth wheel king pin to a goose neck style as all three of my trucks already have balls in them. I wish the trucks wern't so tall 37'' to the bed floor thanks again for the replys I won't be the only one on the road with to much space above the trailer tires and 12. 6' tall.

Yes my springs are on the bottom of the axles and the wheel wells look normal (looked at the trailer last night). Maybe they are setting the trailer higher now a days for the higher trucks?

Sometimes work for a friend who builds trailers and we had to "flip" a few axles 'cuse in that area PHORD is the name and 4x4 is the game. They set too high even for the gooseneck stock trailers but, most stock trailers dont need the clearance (no bed overhang).

Just my 0. 01$ worth.

I have a 34' King Of The Road and just bought a 2000 Ram3500 4X4. Got it home and it dawned on me it was going to be too high without dragging the rear and possibly damaging the trailer and or truck. Since the KOTR has the "Torqueflex" Axle's I had to have the chasis of the trailer raised 4 inches. Cost $400. 00. It doesn't look too bad. Makes it easier to change tires on the trailer now.
