5th Wheel Hitch Bolts

Hello everyone,



I recently moved our 15k reese hitch from our old truck to our 01 3500 dodge. I was only able to get 2 bolts in 3 of the 4 frame brackets. I had cut one of the long brackets off because of a spring hanger on our old truck. We were in a situation where we had to move the RV so I pulled it with only 7 bolts in the brackets. (All the other bolts were in) .

The next day I was working in the parking lot at "Save-A-Lot" putting in new site lighting and was looking at some other trucks with 5th wheel hitches. I seen a chebby 1 ton & a ford 3/4 ton both with 16K hitches. To my suprise they only had 1 bolt in each bracket. This really suprised me.

Should I be concerned about missing the one bolt? How many people only have 1 bolt in each one????

I've been told that I have a screw loose but it would not be bolt in my gooseneck hitch.

makes about as much sense as folks with missing lug nuts. If your goin' on the road I'd put 'em all in to be safe... ... ... JIM

my pull-rite 15. 5 k hitch has 2 brackets, using the super rails. I have a total of 4 bolts in the frame. The brackets are one-piece on each side and the bolts are torqued to 150 ft#'s

Yes, I think I will take the bracket off and add to it so I can put in the 8th bolt.

If you want to have a good laugh & be scared at the same time, start looking under any truck you see with a hitch in the bed. I wouldn't be caught with 2/3rds of them. It's a real crime the way people put these things in. And most of them are done by "Professionals" at RV dealers. There is definitely a need for some kind of inspection on hitch installations. My backets are welded in, but thats what I do for a living. If you can't weld, don't.
